Now I'll get flamed by the Base Camp haters.
I really need to find someone that uses BaseCamp to sit down with me and show me how to make it work. As it is, it is one of the most non-intuitive pieces of shit I've ever tried to use. I've used CAD/CAM software that was more intuitive and easier to use.
I spent a bunch of time last summer trying to use it, spent a bunch of time watching the videos and conversing with the experts on Garmin's forum, only to become more frustrated than ever.
I just fired it up again after reading your post hoping that suddenly something would click and make sense. No such luck, all it did was raise my blood pressure.
It's no wonder very few of the new Garmins allow you to upload custom maps(Oops, sorry, its a ROUTE, not a map. That's one of the few tidbits I did learn from the Garmin wizards).
Uploading custom maps is a useless feature IF YOU CAN"T FIND A USEABLE F^&KING PROGRAM TO MAKE A CUSTOM ROUTE!!!
Most days I consider myself to be at least a couple steps above a village idiot, until I try something as simply as drawing a map, sorry, ROUTE, with a computer, and suddenly I feel like a blithering idiot.
I really have a hard time believing there's more than a couple dozen people in the country doing it successfully.
I've heard what a joke the Infotainment system is, hopefully I'll remember that when I go bike shopping.
I for one LIKE Ride Planner. Enter a start point, enter an end point, drag the lines so it takes you to the places in between that you want to see. Save each day of the trip separately, loading up a new one every morning. Works just fine, with FAR less effort than any other method I've tried.
