Maps updates

I have updated my FLTRUSE to the latest maps available - MY2017-NA CVO. Honestly, it still doesn't know about roads that have existed for years.

In talking with a couple of riding buds, I walked them through the process: downloading & installing Naviextras Toolbox, creating a radio fingerprint, etc. But, they tell me when it comes time to actually download the map update it wants them to cough up $150.
I thought everyone got one free update... not true?

If it is true, that's a racket. Even a hundred dollar GPS comes with lifetime map updates.

All maps are dated by 2-3 years, regardless of which GPS you are using. My understanding is a CVO owner gets three free upgrades within a specified period of time (can't recall if it is 2, 3, or 5 years). All others pay as you go. It's one of the perks of paying $10K less for your bike.

Some folks seek the comfort of the straight and narrow. Me? I prefer the twisted road.

The currently available map for North America is 2017 (MY2017-NA). And it doesn't know about roads that have been in place since the early 2000s.

CVO is 3 updates in a 5-year period.

It's a sin, but not a surprise, that they charge anything for these maps.

Out of curiosity, how do I get my free update? I have a 2015 and it has MY2014 maps so they have never been updated. If I have three free updates and 5 years to use them, I should probably update now and when next year comes out, hopefully I can still get my third. But, how do I get the free ones. the Website only offers to let me pay.

The maps in my 2017 are considerably better than the 2016 had . Not prefect. But neither is my GPS with free life time updates.

With a lot of auto manufacturers going to Apple/Android, how long it will be before HD allows that on their Infotainment centers. For me, if these navigation companies would charge $50 to update, I would not have an issue with that, but $150, nope.

Same here. But Im not talented enough to do that while riding. It requires me to stop, read, refold, and re-route. These fancy GPSs do that on the fly. Can you do that?
