Zumo 660 install questions

I have a couple of questions for those who use Garmin 660/665. Is there a way that you can use the gps and not have it hardwired into the bike. I could see that by using the auto mount you could just plug in lighter, but you would have to use the suction cup mount, which is not normally recommended on a bike.

In addition if I do have to hard wire it, do you have to use all three wires on that power cable? IE: headphone/audio out jack andmicrphone jack and mini-usb connector.

Their instructions with the unit have alot to be desired.

I would like just a simple to way to plug in and use the gps, without having to take the bike apart.

Thanks in advance for any instructions and recommendation.

Put a connector in the middle of the bike cradle. You would leave half on the bike hard wired and the other half removeble along with the cradle. You could also get a replacement cig lighter plug and wire the motorcycle cradle to that.

I did the fuel door mount, which is pretty damn permanent, but it works for me. I can remove the GPS unit, but the mount is still on the fuel door with a cover that protects the pins.

I use the 660. I bought the Iron Aces mount which is extremely easy to install and hardwired it myself. Removing the gas tank is simple. I have service manuals for 2010 and 2011 and would be happy to email the tank removal procedure if you go this route. The Zumo 660 is easy to remove from the Iron Aces mount when not in use. I just ran 6,000 miles and my 660 hardwired was worth its weight in gold.
