Hey guys I just got my new FLTRXS this past week and quickly realized that I should have put a new shield on it when I bought the bike when I had them do all my other accessories!! Anyway, it sounds like the going trend are Freedom Shields so I am going to give them a try but was curious which model I should go with; touring or sport touring? I live in the desert SW currently but am hoping to do some regional and cross country rides as well. That said, I would really appreciate current owners feedback on the model type you are riding and why.

Thanks in advance

I just got a 14" touring shield from them for my sturgis trip. I t was a bit hard to install following the directions. I looked on here and found guys were starting on the outside of either side and working around to the other side. That worked great. I'm very impressed with the shield it cut my wind noise on the hiway down to an acceptable level. I've never tried the sport shield but I'm happy with mine. Lots better than the HD windsplitter I tried before I bought this. He gives a nice discount on the shield also. It's like getting free shipping.

I have an 18" touring, but only because they introduced the sport touring about two weeks or so AFTER I took the plastic off. Had I known it was coming I would have waited. It's considerably thicker than both the stock windshield and the Long Ride Shields "Stingray" that I also bought, and definitely has better clarity and fitment than the latter. The sport touring looks better than the touring IMO. Nice thing is you can try one, and as long as you leave the plastic on, you can send it back if you don't like it and try the other one (or if you can afford it, buy both at the same time and then send back the one you don't like).

The sport Touring shied has a cutout on the outsides that give it more flair, it also is a must for fitting taller bars. (Do any bar/seat changes prior to purchase of Shield)

Email John for further details, give him your measurements and seat height he will get you started on sizing.

I have had both. I started with a dark tinted 16” Sport Touring. I loved the looks, but found that my Russell Day Long seat put me just a little too high, so we were still getting more wind and rain than I wanted. I ran it for a year, then decided to move up to an 18” Touring with no tint. I’ve been running that ever since.

2x on talking to a John @ Freedom Shields if you have any questions. He knows his stuff.

BTW, I’ll make somebody a deal on the Sport Touring shield!

Thanks so much for the picture that really helps. I think with my bars I’ll have to go the sport touring route. I also sent John an email with pics of bike and my measurements as well. Thanks again...once I get my shield I ‘ll be sure to finish this thread off with a pic.

Great shields, I have sat behind mine for 5000 miles now on my 2019 I collected 4 months ago and I love it. I have 10in mini-apes and a 13in Touring shield. Never rode a bike with any kind of fairing before (I am 57) and I was a little worried that the full Touring shape might be a bit ''too much fairing'' ... but not at all. A real asset as I commute 100 miles a day through our relatively mild winter down here. I threw the stock shield in the bin at the dealership when they took it off to fit the Freedom Shield.

Ended up going with the 14” Sport Touring model and love it. As others have said the Freedom Shields really are remarkably thicker then any aftermarket or OEM shield I’ve seen. I was on the fence about the 14” shield since I ‘m 6’4” with 36” inseams, but I had zero buffeting and loved the ride down the interstate at 70+ with music at only 2/3 volume through stock speakers and could hear perfectly. Love the difference it made to my comfort while riding at highway speeds.

Nice looking bike - I like it a lot.

All this talk of these shields now has it put on my 'winter to do' list. I currently have an 11" LRS shield that I have never been fond of the fitment or quality

I have the dark tint 14” Sport Touring Shield and while I can look through it if needed my normal view is over the top of the windshield. I measured from just under my nose to the top of the shield which resulted in zero buffeting and significantly reduced wind noise. I haven’t tried closing the vents on either side of the headlamp yet but I ‘m assuming that will close off even more wind.

I went the 10" dark touring. I wanted to cut the wind noise and still see clearly over it. I still get air but without so much wind noise. It's not silent but this is my only addition. Radio volume defiantly lower than is was before. Mine seem to have a little cloudiness on it after removing the plastic only visible in the light before installing. Called John to talk about what I was seeing and he recommended using a fine polish that I had on hand and that took care of it. What impressed me most was he said he will make it right either way. Customer service like that is a thing of the past with a lot of places. Great product and excellent service!

I'm about to pull the trigger on a 14 inch tour Freedom Shield. I like my Klock Werks tour shield but with my sheepskin seat cover that I really like it’s about an inch short. The side hips also allow more wind by my ears. The wider FS should be nice. Measuring the way FS does, my KW Pro Tour measures 5 inches. The 14 FS measures 6 inches. I’m on the fence about tinting. I’ve always liked dark tint for looks but it’s hard to see the road at night. Thinking about medium tint this time. How do you guys like the different tints? Anyone else switch from KW to FS? What do you think?

My 12” sport touring shield is sitting in the cart. I’m trying to choose between med and dark grey.
I want darker, but am unfamiliar with their tints.
I believe I will be able to see over this shield by a couple inches so I think it’ll be fine dark.
Any suggestions?

Thank you, I thought so from the pics I could find.
The button has been pushed and I can’t wait to get it.
The funny thing is that the stock shield doesn’t even bother me, I just feel like I might be missing out on something.

I’m not really sure how John at Freedom Shields hit on the recipes for his windshields, but he’s got it figured out. Two models. Three tints and a clear. No gizmos and no hype of any kind. I’ve been a customer and enthusiastic fan for a few years now....this after experiencing an epic fail by Long Ride Shields. Maybe a good thing because if my LRS hadn’t failed (and follow that with zero customer service) I would likely not have found John.

I‘m currently waiting on two shields to arrive from Freedom. Both are 15” in medium tint. I couldn’t be sure of Touring versus Sport Touring because of two things: Factory-47 bars will be close on the Touring model. I don’t know which shield will do the best job of protecting Missus Trekker. So I spoke with John and decided to cover the bases. I originally decided on 14” height but I’m seeing over the stock shield so easily (I’m only 6-0) that I upped the height an inch.

SWFL....that shield looks superb on your superb ride. I like it!

Got my 13" Touring on my 2021 and still testing it out. I got the light grey. I'm 5'9, 30" inseam and the wind is definitely directed higher than stock. With the 13" (John recommended), it's hitting me at the top of the helmet and I'm looking over the shield with the stock seat. I'll be honest, the Sport Tour looks like it would blend in more with the shape of the faring and while the light grey tint is easy to see through, the stock dark tint was a nice touch.

As for the shield, echo what everyone says... thick, well made, no distortion. With this shield, the only annoying buffeting is air blasting up the sides of the tank near the seat and hitting me in the chin. Did notice that if I push myself a few inches back in the seat, it comes up in front of me but I'm not a tall guy so that means my arms and legs are outstretched. Would hard or soft lowers help? I already have the HD Road Glide wind deflectors and Kuryakyn has a triple tree deflector as well.
