Thanks for the review Shrug. I have been looking at this shield and your review is making me think I need to have one. I have experienced the sound problems with my FF helmet.
Have a good trip and stay safe.

There is about 2"-3" of room in the mounting brackets to slide the shield up and down. The brackets can be mounted two ways, but MadStad recommends a particular orientation which places the shield in a lower base position. If you mount the brackets opposite of MadStad's recommendation, the base location of the shield will be about 3" higher and you can then raise it 2"-3" from there if needed. This system does not need to to be high to work. After a few hundred miles of riding this weekend on 30+ mph winds, I plan to raise mine about 1" from the base position.

I'm seriously considering giving one a try. If I can have the ability to see well over the shield, yet still have calm air for both passenger & me, I'm all for it. The looks are beginning to grow on me, and actually kind of fit in with the Road Glides non-traditional fairing.

You can see WELL over the shield and still have thorough protection. I can't speak for a passenger though. You're welcome to ride Hester and try it out if we hook up when I'm in Alaska. If you want to ride bitch and see how a passenger feels...nevermind.

Great review on the shield. Looks like the angle changes quite a bit. That would make a lot of difference in wind deflection. I would have to see one in person to make up my mind either way. Functionality is the biggie.....then looks.
You will have to multiply Kilometers by 6 then drop the zero......maybe your GPS is readable? Harley forgot to put them on the speedo? This formula gets the speed real close. Dont forget to pick up some loonies and toonies...Ride Safe

Just got my Madstad installed Friday...

I got it with the 16" smoked shield. I am 6" tall with 27" inseam. If God had been paying attention when I was born I should have been about 6'7".

Anyway after 3 trys I ended up with the sheild about 2.5" up from its lowest position with about 3 fingers of space between the shield and the fairing.

Stting up straight I can see the road over the sheild about 30 -40' infront of the bike. I think that is close to perfect...

I stuck my hand up and felt for the airflow while on the highway. With the current settings the airflow seemed to be about 1 or 2" above my helmet!

There is noticibly less turbulence with the Madstad than with the stock shield. Momma says it is calmer in the back also. At 73 mph the stereo seems louder. (Maybe due to less buffeting noise?)

I think this is going to be a keeper...
