Help with installing new Clutch Cable

Hi all,

Going to swap out my clutch cable and wondering if there are any tips/tricks/incantations out there before I start?? Looks pretty straight forward from the lever down to the case, but what (if any) issues are there with opening the case and hooking it up? Any diagrams to look at?

Very straight forward. You may have to remove the exhaust to get to all of the bolts in the clutch cover.
When you run the cable be sure to retrace the original placement before installing in housing. Have a grease pan under clutch cover as you may lose a little oil from trans.
Remove the clutch cover,
remove the 'C' clip,
remove the cable from lever and install new cable into clutch cover.
(There is a rubber o-ring on the cable going into the housing. Make sure it is snug but not too tight as it will distort or break the o-ring. New cable should come with a new rubber o-ring.)
install new cable into lever,
make sure the 3 pivot balls are in their respective indentations,
install the 'C' clip and reinstall the clutch cover.
If cover gasket is broken or twisted, replace it.
Check the fluid level in the trans and fill as needed. A little low is ok.

Make sure the 'C' clip is in the same location as when you take it apart. The manual is adamant about this placement. Use of a pair of needle nosed pliers will work to remove/replace 'C' clip if you don't have a correct 'C' clip remover plier.

What are the three pivot balls? Are they messed up easily??

The reside under the clutch lever plate. They are what makes it easy to pull the lever in. They are sitting in reliefs in the housing. The plate sits on top of those balls and kind of 'rolls' rather than add friction to the pull. I think it is called a 'ball ramp'.

Also ride up on a 2 by 4 so the bike will lean over when you put down the kick stand. That way you won't lose any oil when you pop off the cover.
