Has anyone had a chance to swap bars on a 2017 yet? I'm looking to get the Factory 47's 14 inch, which they claim works with the stock cables. Harley dealer is claiming the 2017s will only allow up to a 10 inch rise with stock cables.
I'm not sure who to trust at this point, so would love to know if someone out there actually did the work and knows from experience on the newest models.
Not sure on the 17's , but i put 16's on my 16 and everything worked back. It was close, but it worked.I would tell you, if you leave all the wires and lines the way harley has them positioned and tied down, probably would just be 10" or so.
I am a long armed 6'2". I am looking to change my standard 2017 bars. I want to go up 2-3" and possibly a little wider. I would appreciate any suggestions. I did ask Santa but he hasn't replied.
I am 6ft and using 14's they are perfect for me, but there are times i do wish i went 16. If i were you i would go 16 inch and call it a day. You will love them.
I had the 14 Factory 47's on my 15 RG, they were awesome. IMO I would add the extensions, I hear people say you don't have to change them, but I have seen some routing jobs that I would not be comfortable with.
I have a 16 RG now and used 12in Wild ones/Chubby Reapers, nice bar and did the cable/wire extensions.
I had the 14" Factory 47 Signature bars installed on my 2017 RG and didn't have to change out my cables. ....used the stock cables. If u go taller than 14" with Factory 47 bars , then u do have to switch out ur cables. Hope this helps.
Forgot to mention that dealer also told me the same thing, when i asked about swapping out my bars. They said it would be a 10hr. Job@ $115 hr. And $350 for the cable kit.... ridiculous if u ask me. Billy at Factory 47 installed the bars for me. He did it in less than 3hrs. And I love the bars. More comfortable ride and always get compliments on them.
Hey I live in So. Cal too and was thinking of having factory 47 do the install at their shop. Were you able to just drive in have them install and drive home? How much did they charge you to install?
I find it all a bit confusing. Being in Australia, you have limited access to supplies. I don't want to be reaching for the skies. I am just looking for more height and a relaxed feel. Happy to read your comments.
Waiting on my 12in.Kst Outlaws got my old one's off about a hour had it apart wires pulled out no trouble with the plug ins going through bars.Hope it goes back together as easy.249.00 for bars.
I just installed the OEM Harley 14" apes on my 2017 RGS.
I was able to keep the hydraulic lines, but they did require re-routing a little.
I did have to extend the electrical wires on one side of the controls only.
I am curious about apes on my 17 RGS...I am only5'8" and wanting to pull the bars back a bit..Thinking of going with 12" instead. Do they make that big of difference in comfort?
Well, I suppose that depends on the person. I will say that you almost never hear "I never should have put apes on", but you frequently hear "I should have gone taller".
For me, I first went to 14" apes when I had a Heritage (I'm 5'-10"), and it changed my life. No more shoulder pain, riding long distances with ease.
Well let me ask, how do you know where you should start as far as size/length of bars? Anyone know of a reference point to start? Also I know the factory bars are pinned, when you install aftermarket bars do they accept the pin or do you need to remove the pin? I ask because I am pretty sure I would like to pull the bars back a bit.
You're stock bars are 9" tall. I went with the 12" Factory 47s. I'm 5'10"ish with 32" inseam. Bars are perfect for me. Hands just below the shoulder. I didn't go 14 because I'm not a fan of the tall bars over the fairing look.
Some bars allow for the pin, some do not. The Monkey Bars I am in the process of installing have a slot so adjustments are doable.
I went to the HD dealer and tried out several bikes with aftermarket bars on them. My boss has 10" chiseled bars from HD and I did like them much better than the stock bars. The 14" Chisled bars dropped too much at the grips for me.
I have done three of these bars on 17 road Glides. Couple of things that will make this easy.
#1 Unplug and remove the switch pack prior to fishing the wires
#2 Use the pull chain method, It works great with the bars
#3 The 14" bars will work with all the stock wires and brake/clutch lines. You will need to cut the tie wraps inside the instrument housing and pull to get enough slack in the control lines to reach but they will reach.
#4. Use painters blue tape to wrap the pull chain. It is slippery and easy to remove when you get the wires through
I would suggest that you will get these wired and installed inside 2 hours at worse. Look great
Thanks for all the tips..I ended up going with the 10" Yaffee bars..really like them. I do wish the end cut on the throttle side would have been better so I would not have so much slop in my throttle grip but it is what it is I guess. Anyhow thanks again for all the help and guidance. Also took me 2.5 hrs to pull old bars, pull out wiring and pull wiring into new bars and reinstall...not that bad at all..
Our 14" Signature Bars will work with the stock cables and wires.
Hey this is Andrew from Factory 47. I was the one who filmed the video and since that video we have done so many installs. It is a super easy installation. The 2017 has a few minor differences for example the throttle by wire but it is pretty much the same install. I am currently working on a new video to show how me make the Signature bar. So you guys can see what we do here at the shop. I'll update you guys when the video is ready.

Installed on 2017 FLTRXS using extended clutch & brake hoses, extended wiring harness. Wiring is a breeze, clutch and brake setup was quick as well. No need to take the bike to Harley IF you don't turn the ignition on prior to bleeding the brake lines.
Just installed the Factory 47 14 in Signature Bars on my 2016 Road Glide Special. Myself and a friend installed them in 4 and a half hours with moderate experience. Just make sure you cut zip ties in behind gauges to enable the extra length you need. Clutch and brake lines worked perfect. Use some dish soap to run cables and to get clutch hand grip off. Hope that helps
