New Avon "Memory Foam" Grips

Got these delivered off eBay to go on my 2017 RGS.

Avon Small Memory Foam Grips Black Round Cap for Harley Throttle By Wire | eBay

IMHO, they are a pain in the ass to install and get everything put back correctly without tearing things up, but this was my first Harley grip install. The YouTube videos help, but minimize the difficulty somewhat. There is lot of potential for damage there with all of the wires and switches if you are not very careful, particularly on the clutch side.

Once you get the switch housings separated, the stock grips are easy to remove, especially the throttle side with the FBW. The clutch side is glued on, but can be removed intact by heating it and using compressed air directed under the grip.

These are the same diameter as the stock grips, even though they are size small. Very nice, very comfortable. They fit my glove size 10 hand well.

I just cut the left grip off...but you are right!! With the rushmore, the housings do not separate on their own, there is a small "latch" that you have to unclip...dont try and force it!!!..and that pesky little dang button on the top!! I was nervous about breaking it!!

If you love your freedom, thank a Vet!!

So what's the verdict on these after some ride time?

I have the Avon Air Cushions, all black and I read all the reviews on how comfortable they are, and don't get me wrong, they are, but I think I prefer the feel of a solid diameter grip over the grips with the indentations for the cushions.

Really thinking about these memory foam ones in medium for my ride.

I also like these: http://xtrememachineusa.com/Xccessor...l#!prettyPhoto

But don't think I want to drop $120 on grips....

Thumbs up or thumbs down??

P.S. I found the grips really easy to put on, but maybe since I have a '12?

LOL

The Xtreme Machine ones are $120, not the Avons.

I paid about half that for my medium Avon Memory foam grips. So much better than the stock or other Harley grips I had as far as comfort goes. Had a conversation with Avon before I purchased and asked them point blank, with all of their various grips, which are the most comfortable? Memory foam was first followed by air.

A few years back when I got my 10, I started to fall for the FBW throttle requires FBW grips thing ...(most of which struck my as a bit disco)... Right up until I saw the prices on them.

So I just grabbed a pair of grips that I liked (same style I've been running for 30+ years) at a swap meet for $30. Cut off the stock grips, slipped on the new grips...and didn't see much need to disassemble a damn thing.

So did HD manage to somehow over complicate the hell out of the Rushmore grips? Pictures ain't that great, but they look fairly normal in the online parts lookup.

Basic black 1981 Tour Glide Classic named Alice - She's a sleeper project.
