Is my OEM speedo with 1 mile on it saleable?

I got CVO-style gauges/clocks fitted to my bike before delivery, bike had 1 mile on the clock.

The white-face clocks that came stock on my FLTRX are sitting in my garage.

I have researched and read that the other gauges can be fitted to any bike, but the speedo will not work on another bike because it is data-linked to my bike's VIN.

But I have also read that this ''locking'' only occurs after 30/31 miles on the odometer.

Can i sell the speedo? I do not want to advertise something that won't work for the next guy.

It is illegal to sale it as it is illegal to modify a vehicles odometer, that can be used to defraud mileage.

Furthermore your bike probably should have a corrected odometer paper, if the original showed 1 mile.

You may have me wrong here. It's not about tinkering with mileage. Some people swap out gauges for cosmetic reasons. I DID!

I am now advised by a dealer tech that as long as the bike did less than 31miles my OEM speedo is not locked to my bike. In the past, I have had mileage adjusted for correct display on cosmetic improvement speedo.

Thatís good, I wouldnít sell a gauge cluster for the above stated reasons; unless Iím wrong and the data is stored in the ECM.

it is not illegal to sell a 'used' speedo. it is illegal to change out your speedo and claim that it has less mileage than it does. if you do change out, there should be a sticker tha says something to the effect of 'mileage not as stated', and yes, the ecm does store mileage.

KIWIDAVE,
As I read this you are in AUSTRALIA, and not governed by US laws. I am interested, as I'd like to put a new face on the instruments. I've also heard starting with Rushmores the ECU/BCM has the mileage. 2013 & older mileage is saved in the speedo.

Be aware that, like Canada, we are on KILOMETRES down here. Clocks are available.....

When my gauges went out and only worked intermittently, the odometer seemed to work even when it wasn't lite up because the milage increased. I didn't know why but I guess it had something to do with the ECM......Interesting. The bike was a 2015 RG Special and covered under warranty.

No its not illegal in the U.S. to modify an odometer. Its illegal not to report the change in the odometer reading to DMV.

I do not see the problem because unless the gauge is paired with the ECM it simply does not work.
My Dyna is a '09 US model, stock odometer in miles and 25K miles when I got back to Italy. When I got a NEW HD odometer with 0KM in it I had to couple it with the ECM utilizing a wire connected with the Comm Port before installation. The new Odometer had the miles converted in kilometer with no loss, instructions said that without coupling the odometer would show an "error" message.
So, unless the way miles are stored is different now (check at dealer), sell a used odometer with miles in it is not an issue providing the coupling wire is available (maybe a dealer can have it, in my case it came with the original HD package)
