Fat Apes

Does anyone here have or had the Road Glide Fat Ape bars on a 16 and later Shark? The specs on these bars may very well fit me much better than the traditional F47, Vindikta and a few other big name companies. My sled is a 19 Road Glide Ultra.

Road Glide Fat Ape Part#55800548A
32.50 tip to tip
14.75 center rise
9.67" pull back

I just pulled off Vindikta 14" chrome bars to go back to the stock bars. With the Vindikta's easily done without changing any cables or wiring. As for the wiring, there is plenty to cover with the H-D ape bars and the cables are have room as well but not much to spare if any. The problem for me with Vindikta bars is the width 36 1/2" and 8 1/2" pull back. I am 5' 8" with a 30" inseam and with these bars, it forces me to slide up the seat (stock seat) for slow speed maneuvers or backing the bike from the garage or backing in a parking spot and I was running the bars inline with the forks.

I have them on my 18RGU and love them. I looked around for awhile and got lucky and was able to test out a set of 14" 47's and no way I could cone course with them. I have moved them around 4 or 5 times to find the happy medium between interstate "far forward" comfort and cone course "rolled back to me" comfort. 5'10.5" with a 32inseam. Never have been a fan of HD bars but I do love these.

I do not have a newer RG, but I just went through adding new fat apes onto my 08. I am similar in height - 5'9" and 30" inseam also (so longer torso and arms). I also had wide bars prior, they were Cyclewerks 13.5" mini apes that were 39" wide and I forget the pullback. Anyways, I could not find any 'off the shelf bars' that were matching up to measurements that my Indie helped me take regarding where I want my hands on my bars for long cruising, so I ended up calling Dave at FMB Choppers in California and I had them make me bars to the exact measurements I wanted: 33" width, 9" center, 16" rise, 1.5" tubing, and 8" pullback. I was worried about the stigma of 16"s, but the measurements didn't lie and now that I have been riding with them for a few months, I certainly wish I had these bars made sooner - the comfort is perfect for tight city driving or long all-day rides.

We all like pics....(I had the bars chromed at a local shop, FMB does not offer chroming, so I ordered these raw steel)

Can you add a few pics of your bars, front, back and both sides? Also, I'm assuming you had to change the cables out? I wasn't sure if the shorter width of the bars would compensate for the additional height.
