Outlaw Apes - Heads up on anything?

So I did a little shopping and place an order for some 12" apes. I've read a ton of threads, searched and watched videos. Other than the basic walk through can you guys give me some heads up on a few things?

[1] No experience - How long did you think it takes to complete the job?

[2] HD tried to sell me the wire kit (on the throttle side, they said it breaks). After I had read a bunch of threads I turned it down to save $100 bucks. Do you think I need it?

[3] Anything out of the ordinary you guys who have done the install, came across?

I also ordered these:

And having these put on as well:

Be sure you place a spacer on the brake lever when reinstalling to prevent breaking your brake switch.

When I did my wires I put the rubber gasket into the housing and pushed the wire thru. It holds the wire from twisting as you put them in.

Be patient. If you run into a question return here for help if you don't have other resources.

If I did mine again I would eliminate the green TBW piece and than solder it. It's a pain in the ass pulling it thru at that bend.

Agree with laxinharley I would eliminate the TBW green connector, search the handlebar thread for eliminating green connector instructions provided by Donk very helpful.

Not sure how good you are at soldering..Maybe this can help someone else if your good at it. But it was my first time trying it when i did my bars. The first solder wire i bought was to thick and not spreading on the wire well. I went to radio shack and got some 60/40 .032 diameter solder wire. Seemed to work a lot better for me. Practice on some junk wire a few times.

Take your time and when your about to give up.. Sleep on it and tackle it again when your ready. It took me probably longer than anybody to do mine. But I'm glad I did it. It's a great feeling when you finally turn that ignition switch on and everything works.

Just finished doing Chubby Z's on mine. I put heatshrink on the green connector and had no problem there. Worst part was trying to get the bundles to make the 90* bend at the bottom of the bars. Might be a good idea to pick up a couple of spare terminals, I managed to break one and was lucky to have a spare on hand.

For 12" Outlawz I used windex as wire lube which worked pretty good. I think it was the left side wires I had to separate into pairs, wrapping each tightly in electrical tape in order to get them all pulled through. I had to cut out the tbw connector & soldered. Did my bars well over a year ago and have had no problems. I think deleting the green connector per Donk's thread on the subject and PROPERLY soldering and heat shrinking the connection actually makes the tbw circuit much more reliable.

So Ive been doing more research and I keep reading about this shim thing yet I have been unable to find any pictures or videos that show at what step this is done and where it's done. Anyone seen any other walk through?
