Stock Handlebar Diameter

I am looking to change out my stock handlebars on a 2000 RG and can't find the diameter of the bars. Are they 1" or 1 1/4"? I don't have a set of calipers to measure. Thanks.

I think 2006 and later have a different handlebar clamp too than the earlier models so you will want to make sure you address that as well.
What bars you going with?

Thank you for the quick responses. I am looking at a set of 11" ape hangers on ebay (don't want to change out any cables) that are 1 1/4" bars with a 1" mounting point and grip location.

Sorry I dont have experience with your year bike, but seems like I have read something about the handlebar clamp is different or needs to be upgraded?
Perhaps someone else can chime in about that I am referring to.

The older models have 2 straps vice an actual clamp.

Looks to me as though you can't put the one piece clamp on older bikes. Has anyone? The bolt pattern looks wider from the pics above.thanks
