After spending the better part of two weeks reading literally hundreds of posts, I cannot seem to find what I'm looking for in a handlebar. I'm hoping that I can get some great suggestions.
First let me set the stage:
I'm short, just under 5'5" and have my 2013 FLTRX slammed, so my feet are comfortably on the ground (front and rear lowered and a seat change). Obviously my arm reach is shorter than most.
For the past 14 years I've been riding a '91 FXSTS with the stock buckhorn handlebars. I loved them. The pullback, width, all of it. The buckhorn bar grips are more verticle than horizontal which I prefer. However I'm fine with the more near horizontal stance of the stock bars since the 'angle' is mostly perpindicular to the bike. I do not want a severe angle (like you find in beach bars for example), as I have arthiritis in my wrists and this just would be a killer.
I've rolled back the stock bars as much as possible before they hit the tank, but I still need another 2 - 3 inches so I can sit straight without reaching / leaning forward and have some slack in my elbows. Also the stock bar width is at the maximum I feel ok with.
Oh, and contrary to the majority it seems, I do not seem care for apes (sorry folks, just my personal preference). 'Maybe' short apes that hit all the other marks but that are narrower and can be rolled back? I'm open minded.
At this point after reading so many posts, it appears that the Heritage bars might seem to be the best shot. My hesitation with this is the wrist angle as it appears greater than the stock bars, which I don't think would work, and I don't think the pull back will be quite enough.
With all that said, does anyone have some suggestions to help the little guy out? Again, what I need is:
* Significant pullback
* Either buckhorn style with more vertical grips or mostly perpindicular (think T-bar for example) to the bike angle grips. Nothing that twists the wrists out.
* 32" or less (preferably less) width.
* I don't care about style / looks so much - I'm way more concerned with function / comfort.
I really appreciate any help or suggestions.
Thanks guys (and girls),
