US Fender on Canadian bike

Hey guys, new to the Harley world and to this forum. I just picked up a 2019 RGS. Love the bike, except the taillight. I live in Canada, so we have the big taillight on the rear fender. I managed to pick up a US rear fender to match my billiard blue off eBay. I’ve been searching the forums and cant find anyone that has done this before. I know the wiring harnesses are different, but people also get the CVO fender and make that work, which would be similar to this. Just wondering if anyone has done any wiring related to something like this? Thanks for the help.

More info. I’ve tried switching plugs around and still nothing. Although now, when I plug it straight into the harness on the bike, I only get the right signal to light up. I plug the factory rear lights in and they all work, with signals and everything. Any help would be great. Thanks

Well, when I first plugged it in, yes. But now, I have a code, which I cleared. Now the only thing that works is the right signal and i thinks it’s actually both filaments on. So brake light on right side and that’s it. I figured the bike probably powered everything up first and then shut it down.

Your statement is dead on correct with the wiring. Check your fuses just to be sure you didn't pop anything and rule that out just to be sure. Be sure the converter module is correct as well. The first 2 pictures attached are the 1) US converter out plug and the 2) Canadian converter out plug to show what the orientation is for the connector. The view is as if you are looking at the terminal side of the connector. The last picture is the harness into the converter. Good luck, let me know what you come up with!

Still a no go. I’ve been working on it all morning. Scouring the internet and trying different combinations of the wires. The only thing I can get is the right signal and the right brake to work.

US harness BE/BN to Canadian R/Y gets the right signal to work. Then if I connect the BE/R the brake lights will work with it. All on the right side. I swear if I get this figured out, I’m going to make a harness and start selling!

It could be possible the BCM needs to be reconfigured. If the bike was in front of me I could make short work of this but it's hard to do it this way. It could be the BCM is shutting down certain signals because it senses an open or a circuit over current condition. Keep at it, I'm confident you'll prevail or at least get a firm understanding of the system.

You're killin me Smalls! Just kidding. Get out a pen and a notebook and start creating a map of the wiring. Write down what you are doing and what the result is with which wires connected and what that wire is supposed to do.

Haha. Ya, I’ve been trying everything with wire combinations. The only thing I can do is get all the running lights working and left signal. If I touch the Blue/Red to the left side signal, I get brakes just on the left side. No, signal or brakes on right side.

I just looked at the connector pictures I posted again. If a Canadian and US bike are duplicates into the module then make sure your connectors are wired like the US pictures for the module out. Make sure you have the right module too. If that isn't working, then do not connect the lights and just check what signals are coming out of the module. Maybe the module is defective? You do have a US fender and US module right? Make sure the bulbs after good too. Are you checking with DVOM or test light? Make a schematic of what wires are where and take a picture to post it.

I have read through this over the days, but not 100% up to speed as to what you are trying to achieve in regards to having the lights running. In Canada, I didn't think we were required to have the signal lights running all the time, just the brake light are wired as such. You would think then that the bulbs would not be dual element and possibly not wired as such. If you want them to run as such, there should be wiring in the tour pack harness that will run the signals as dual, as that is ho the tour pack is wired regardless of country. At least, this is how my 08 is wired tour pack is dual running/turn in red, my lower turn signals are orange and only on when activated by the switch.

I'm in Canada. I replaced my Canadian fender with a nastyhog 2 light cvo fender. I had a harness I got from jarz that worked for my bike brake lights and signals all worked. But I kept having BCM codes. But the lights all functioned. An Indy shop was able to figure out why. They deleted my brake light from my Canadian bike through the techno research software and that got rid of my codes and lights all work as they're supposed to. Going from Canadian to us style lights the bike is looking for the brake light in the middle I guess and thats probably what yours is doing. I think our Canadian Bikes are configured as ROAS KINGS cause I believe the American road kinds have same fenders as us. Where as the street glides and rgs have the 2 lamp fender in the states without the big brake light. Changing the setting in the bcm might fix your problem
