Motor mod plans, comments welcomed

Starting with 06 88":

Darkhorse crank works bottom end work w/timken conversion. Was also looking at Drago for bottom end work.
97" Axtell Cly and pistojns 10:1
HPI 55mm induction
Steve Allsteadt Heads
Black Widow Cams (specs unknown at this time. grind isn't posted)
Feuling or Tman camplate, oil pump and lifters
Offset rockers
Thundermax controller.
Dragula or Fatcat 2 into 1 pipe.
Bakker DD6 in trans.

A similar build makes 110HP/113 TQ, thats what I'm look for and it should last awhile.

I worked with Steve at a dealership and lean on him for vendor choices. I still have to decide whether to go gear drive or cam plate conversion. When I wrenched I installed quite a few gear drives and never had anyone complain about gear noise. Now I hear everyone loves the conversion and hydraulic tensioner. My performance mind say use the gear drive (more accurate valve timing, less parts wearing or that can break. Don't know which way parisitic loss falls. Probably less with the gear drive) I hear lots of vendors are dumping their gear drives because of the popularity of the cam conversion. Comments welcomed.

Go with the gear drive Cams, you won't regret it. Had them on my 04 Elctroglide standard and Loved them. They are a little louder than chain, but well worth it from a feeling of security and performance perspective.

Personally, if I was gonna split the cases to dink with the crank I'd re-shuffle my budget and put a stroker crank in it. Go big or go home. You're buying pistons, having the cylinders bored anyway, you might as well do it right.
If money was an issue I'd skip the cam plate/pump etc and go with the crank.

If it were me...I'd go bigger than a 97-incher. If you must have a 6-spd tranny, consider just changing out the gear-set. ($1,000 dollars for the gears and labor to install). With the $2,000 dollars you save, go with a bigger crank (S&S worked over by Darkhorse) and will NOT be dissapointed.

If you're going to spend the coin to split the cases and's the time to go'll be bumming after you get used to the HP and TQ of a 97" motor. You're going to be into a Baker 6-spd tranny for right at $3-Grand...move your funds and get what you really want the fist time. If you try and do it later, it's going to cost you a lot more...and believe me, you'll want to go bigger later...

Finally got cam specs; Int: open 19.5 close 44 Exh: open 50.5 close 17.5 duration Int: 244 Duration Exh: 250 Lift is .580 for both Overlap is 37.

We'll see how it does. Has anyone run the Woods helical cam gears?

After alot of thought (and beers). I decided I only want to do this once. Motor has grown to 107" w/ SA racing SE 110 heads.
