to cam or not to cam?

New 1300 miles RGU with fuel moto stage 1 type air cleaner and screaming eagle pipes. Power Vision tuner. Im liking the change with these add ons and the bike pulls well, but I had a 103 with 255 cams on an 09 Road king and Im thinking about adding these to this bike - but is it worth the $.

I want/have to stay with harley cams because I have an extended warranty and will have them do it before 60 days from purchase is up - so they will be covered too.

Looking at the screaming eagle cams Im wondering about the 259 too. It looks like it comes on a little later than the 255 and stays on for higher RPM's

Im a big guy 290 lbs and I liked the torque from the 255's

There are better choices in cams for a 103 IMO, but if you can only use HD cams my suggestion (considering your total vehicle weight) would be the 255's.

The 259s need more compression, so would be a bad choice for a cam-only job. You know the 255 from past experience, and the 254s are also a good option and carries the power curve a little further.
Also look into the 204s. They're not as strong as the 255 on the bottom end, but have a broad range and should make more hp overall.

If it was me I would stick with the 255's. I was faced with the same decision and I'm loving the torque. I know there's better out there but that's the best HD cam for my needs.

I have the se254e cams and love them! I have a cousin who has the 255's in his street glide and I always pull away slightly in a race. I'm not the better rider and our bikes are set up the same, the 255's just fall on their face in power early in rpms where the 254e cam's lets you build power too redline. The 254e cam's also don't destroy fuel mileage like the 255 torque monsters do. Riding both bikes they feel similar, the 255 does have a lil more low end grunt but the power quicly fades as the rpm's build, where the 254e cam just feels like a stock motor with just more power everywhere in the rpm band. There are much better choices for a cam for our bikes, but if staying with HD look at the 254e cam.

The 255 school bus/emission cams should not create poor fuel economy.
Perhaps a ride up to Corfu, N.Y., to vist Dan Thayer, Thayers Sales & Service, would/could correct that.

If I had to choose a SE cam to go with a 103 touring bike, it would be the SE204. I don't think you would be disappointed with a SE204. Pulls like a freight train down low and runs out pretty well to 5500 rpm.
