Older RG Compensator Questions

I've got a 2001 RG carb'ed with Stage 1 AC, Sampson slip-ons, and Andrews 21N cams. The cam chest has been upgraded to hydraulic with all 2007 parts.

Shortly after all this work was completed, I was testing everything out and turning some decent RPMs within a month or so. While passing a vehicle I missed a gear, kinda doubled clutched and wound her up to about 6300+-.

Now, other than worrying about a bent valve or something, it runs fine. However, it is very noisy with a sound like an angry sewing machine. I have been trying to track this down for some time. I am aware of most of the things it could be(lifters, rockers, pushrods, etc...). The noise is only from the left side and down low. At one point, the bike developed a severe whine on deceleration.

I immediately took the bike to an indy when the whine developed. He investigated and determined the adjuster shoe needed replaced. Here's where things get muddy. He also, advised the bike had an aftermarket compensator, chain, and possibly clutch shell. I have been googling ever since trying to figure out what this setup is. I have found info about Andrews possibly making a gear reduction set and a few others but I do not know how to identify this thing and see if I can even get another compensator. Going back to stock parts will get a bit spendy. Anyone have any experience with a system like this?

I have not had a dyno run , but I think I am somewhere above 80hp. I don't know if this would be hard on the aftermarket comp. Any help would be appreciated.

It would seem that if the aftermarket clutch assembly that is in your bike used the stock HD primary chain then you could replace the compensator with a OEM compensator with no problems.
It would seem the diameter of the aftermarket compensator would be close to the same as the original compensator so the chain would be the main issue.
It doesn't make any sense that someone would put in a performance compensator and clutch on a bike that doesn't' have a big build. JMO

I don't think it was for performance. It was for RPM reduction at highway speed. Also, the chain is definitely not stock. It wore a completely new groove path in the old adjuster pad. I can't just replace the compensator with stock parts as the chain does not match up.

Why change the compensator if it's not bad. Sounds like you need a good primary fluid with the correct amount.

I have run Mobil 1 20W50 Vtwin and the Indy put his recommended primary fluid with no change in the noise. I have a quart of Redline heavy shock proof I will try when it's due to be changed. Have used a quart each time.
