Turbo / Supercharger? Which one?

Hey guys,

I have just finished my S&S 106 build and while I am pleased with it, I think I want more. For the last 20 years, something I have built has always had a power adder of some sort. (NOS / Supercharger / Turbo) They all have their ups and downs so with this I guess I will go for looks and price.

Before, I am told to do the 124, I wanted to say that I have thought about it over and over but at this point I think I will just keep what I have and add a power adder. To do the 124' it will cost me around 8k. Most of what I have seen is the charger / turbo will cost me a little less. Under 6k unless things have changed.

So, to you guys who have one or the other, do you have any pictures? I like the Pro Charger but I am not sure I like the primary case being changed. From what I have seen it looks like they could have made a better looking design. As for the turbo, I like my Drago's exhaust and hate to change it. For one I like the balance of two pipes hanging out the back (I have the ghost pipe) .

What do you guys have and like? What are some of the down-sides to either of these? I hear the heat is killer from the turbo and the pro charger has some belt issues?

I would like to hear more. Thanks for the input guys..

Have you checked out the TTS Supercharger set-up? they use a Rotrex compressor that runs off the cam chest. Very clean looking, and they have some impressive HP and TQ numbers on their website.

A lot to be said for a purpose-built naturally-aspirated 124" engine, for either a torque monster, or an hp screamer, after being in this business as long as we have.

I will check TTS out. I haven't seen one for the V-twin but a few years ago they made a nice set up for my Night Rod but had bearing issues.

As far as the 124"...yup I would luv to have it but its a little out of my reach ($) right now. lol

I may have gotten a little ahead of myself. I need to convince the wife why I need more power...Oh well, I will think of something.

I would say aerocharger or trask turbo, the turbo comes in anytime the motor is under load and rides very smooth curves.

With that said another option Is hdblower. It isn't out yet but that's What I am waiting for. 40% hp and 30% torque for 3500.00

hmmm, the HDblower? I need to hear more...the price is doable for sure..who is building it for HD?

I do like the feel of turbo as it spools...but I also want to smoke the tires with the twist of the throttle. (I know I know, maybe I should have bought a Busa...but I didn't so I am working with what I have and what I like )
Let me look up the Aerocharger, I haven't seen much on them lately.

I am looking for pics of a blacked out ProCharger on the RG. I have seen a few guys here on the forum with them but the avatars are too small for my eyes to see all the details.

It doesn't matter what FI system you go with, your not going to be able to smoke the tires on a 106" with just the twist of the throttle. My 107" is putting 209/169 to the wheel. When I whack the throttle it will pin me back in the seat and carry the front wheel about 6" off the ground.Feather the clutch alittle bit and the tire will go up in smoke bouncing off the rev limiter. Before you buy anything talk to Frank over at Dragos. He's the very best in the business. He works on them all.

BlownBagger -I was wondering when you were going to chime in! Don't take my happy thoughts away... in reference to (not going to be able to smoke the tires on a 106" with just the twist of the throttle) ...lol Nah that is fine with me. Carrying the wheel is good also.. I just need more than what I have. I get bored easy.

What cams are you running?

Yeah, I will talk to Frank shortly. I was giving him a rest from all the chatting we did with my last build..lol

-where can I find more pictures of your bike. Something I can see a little better?

Well, it looks like I am going with a Pro Charger. I figure it should run very well with the heads I have. I will update when parts start showing up!
