Cams

How hard is it to install cams?? My dealer wants $500 to install them. I've built stock car motors and just never worked on a Harley. Are they simple or what. Can I get some advise please :-).

They are one of the easiest engines I have ever worked on. Simple tools, torque wrench and a workshop manual is all you need.

2 to 3 hours at the most. Really depends which way you do it and what pushrods you use. Use chain cutters to cut the old pushrods and SE adjustable pushrods and you can have it done in less than a hour and half.

You will want to replace the pos cams bearings so you will need a bearing puller and installer ;-)

May want to consider a good set of lifters as well, particularly if you have "C" lifters.

Take Scott's advice and replace the lifters when you do the cam swap, or you will end up tearing it apart the second time in a couple thousand miles.
