Cam change or not???

Well thinking about taking it to the next level. Already have exhaust , breather, and power commander now thinking about the cams. I am looking for feedback on if its really worth the money to go to the next level. It makes it hard when you look at dyno results that seem to be all over to decide if I would be gaining that much for the money it takes to install the new cams. Local indy is suggesting S&S 570 cams and I trust his opinion but anyone have feedback on these?? Or if you typically gain enough power to justify the cost.

I've got S&S, I think 551? It's a low end cam. I wasn't looking for much extra power, just low end torque. Also true duals and a dyno. I'm very happy with the result, but I did it all at once. Bike now runs 50 degrees cooler, rear cylinder does not go r but left, away from r calf. compression releases make it start noticeably easier.

I stay away from the S&S easy start cams because it is just something else that may go wrong but that is JMO.
I run the Woods 222 cams and I love them.
Check out Fuel Motos web site and you can see the dyno results on the Woods cams, very impressive to say the least.

Are you happy with the way the bike rides and performs? A mechanic is going to try and convince you that you need something thats how they make money , if your happy with the way the bike performs then leave it alone , if its not meeting your expectations then only you know that and can decide what you need.
I have been debating the same thing myself but after not being able to ride for about a month due to other obligations I got out last weekend for a 120 mile ride and once again fell in love with my ride and now just want more time to ride not modify, this forum while great can make you want things that are not really necessary.

Bike is a 13 custom with true duals and carriage works mufflers. The bike has enough power as it sits to me but you know how it is you can never have to much..

1. If you are happy with your ride, enough power for your riding style leave it along. Rode stage 1 for 8 yrs on older bike.
2. Yes the money expense is well worth it if chose the right cam. Personally like one to get upper 90's hp and close 110 tq opening from 2400 rpm for as long possible so that six gear at 80 ml highway speeds don't require shift down for passing.

If you fill saddle bags and ride two up a cam will make big difference. A cam will wake the 103, with gas miles close to stage 1. The 57 H give me 42 ml on cruising speeds.

Since you are only looking for feedback.......

My 2012 ran good......it got the job done. My only real complaint was the heat. I spoke with my "guy".....he suggested removing the catalytic converter, installing some 510c cams and a Screaming Eagle Super tuner.....I was already running some V&H pipes and a K&N hiflo airfilter.

Now 2 months after having all that done........the power is noticeably increased and the temp has gone down but not dramatically. What has dropped drastically is my gas mileage........I was getting in the mid to upper 40's mpg to now the very best I have been able to get is 30 mpg....usually closer to 27-28 mpg.

So, in my opinion......not worth the cost. I can't go back now but if I had it to do over again.......I would keep the stock set up with the exception of the air filter setup and pipes......I would install a set of Love-Jugs fans to combat the heat while stuck in traffic.....and ride the piss out of it.
