Bent Main Shaft
Problems finding neutral, clutch not holding, problems shifting? Well could be the main shaft in the transmission.
Took bike into dealer today after many issues regarding shifting and reading (as to proper clutch adjustment, and oil used) as much as possible. Today they pulled the cartridge to see the main shaft was bent and both forks were worn. I have had to replace the spline gear on the shifter(around 12k miles) Chan tension-er nylon guide in the primary (18k miles) installed aim lock (18k miles), Switched to red line. Installed Screaming spring (28k miles) Installed screaming eagle plate pack (31k miles) Adjustment checked at least 8 times. The shaft has been superseded 2 times in 2 years! My local dealer helped me out as I am out of warranty by 4 months and I will pay 2.5 hours for the whole job. I will get bike back later to verify this fixes the issue. Though I may not be a mechanic, years ago had training on the importance of things being in balance to avoid excessive wear on other components (IE chain tension assembly, clutch plates( not mating even) . I suspect it has been bent or was never straight for a long time and resulted in the other issues that had to be replaced. This being bent would explain the heavy wear of the nylon guide with only 18k miles and why all with all that was done to clutch assembly why still could hear clutch spin, not allowing it to engage fully. Finally believe my wait to be over to have things shift and engage properly!
