More displacement vs. turbo ..

I have built and ridden large displacement Harley's for many years and have always believed there is no replacement for displacement ..

But nowadays you can get into a turbo for the same money as a 124 crate motor ..

I know there are a few turbo baggers here , and I am certain some of you have put on some miles ..

So how is the reliability ?? Is a 80-100,000 mile turbo a feasibility ?

I ain't a hot rodder anymore , so that is out ..

My concern would be the strength of the stock bottom end. If you had to beef up the bottom end to handle the turbo then you would be much higher in cost than the 124".

Depends on power you want achieve.

Stock bottom end done Hbeam rods can handle about 150 with a blower/ turbo.

Nice forge crank done right can handle 200/220hp
At wheel is what I'm talking about.

P3fly wheels can handle much more custom built.

And this from many years of building blower / turbo bikes.

In comparison, is a 124 reliable enough to give 80-100k miles? That's what I'm looking to do. IMO, with the pricing being similar, the crate motor looks better, without all of the extra stuff hanging off and the power is more predictable from what I've read.

We have installed those power-adders and they seem to show more mid-upper rpm range juice.
S&S 124" reliability?
We have a client in Syracuse, NY, that has over 137,000 on his.

Two 124's in this area and I know both owners. Both of them had over 70,000mi when the seasons turned too cold to ride daily. They installed the motors, had them tuned and left them alone (not constantly screwing with different cams and stuff).

I know the bottom would have to be beefed up for the turbo and I too like the idea of something like the 124 without all the hardware hanging off , and I know a few 124's as well and they have some miles on them to boot ..

Be curious to see how the 143 holds up , or see if they will build a LC version for me

For the price of the 143 you could almost do a 124 with a turbo.
