Hard starting problem

I have a 2013 fltrx stock motor, se breather, side exhaust which is modified factory exhaust made into 2into1 , the problem is when you start it it may pop loud and start or it turns over a few times and sounds like its about to tear the shit out of something , once in a great while it starts perfect, i put on a new battery today. new compensator 1 wk ago, checked batt cables , loaded new map on thundermax ,also had 'oreallys' put there tester on and it shows starter as good, any help would be appreaciated , Thanks ..Steve

Did they check voltage while you were cranking it over? Sounds like the starter is drawing down the voltage on the battery. When a starter starts to go bad, it will draw more amperage.

Tour Rider,
Is it acting up hot and cold motor? What kind of "Pop", and where is it coming from? I'm also curious about the starter "test". How did they test it?

Any shop near you that has Techno-Research Centurion,(or other scanners) would be able to pull any codes that are showing up.
My guesstimate is a(or both) compression release acting up?

It starts the same was hot or cold, and i believe the pop is coming from exhaust, as far as the test ,they hooked 2 leads to the battery had me wait until machine was ready for me to start for the reading..

Sounds like you may have the wrong EFI map loaded in the T-max.
Why are you running a T-max tuner anyways? I mean that with the mods you have the T-max is a bit of a over kill.
The T-max should work fine for you though but too me it sounds like the ignition timing is off so try a different base map or go into the "Timing VS Engine speed section and try retarding the timing in the low RPM area.
I don't think it is a compression release issue but you can go to basic settings and turn the compression releases off or on if you want.

Ironmark...thanks for the reply, I reloaded a new map in it yesterday and it does the same, the ACR's are on, as far as the overkill on the tuner I intend on installing a 107 kit...Thank Steve

With the 107 and some performance mods the T-max will work fine for you so planning ahead isn't a bad idea.
If you look at the timing grafts on different base maps you will see that the timing is pretty much the same at the low end of the graft on many base maps so you can load different base maps and still end up with the timing being the same.
Go into the timing section and open the Timing vs TPS section and go to the lower rpm ranges and retard the timing a little.
Did you check for any DTCs
Also check the basic settings and make sure the "initial fuel pulse" is set at 151% and that the "cranking fuel" is set at 13.0 msec. If the cranking fuel or the initial fuel pulse is too high it can put too much fuel into the engine which may cause starting problems.
