Clutch for 2015 RGS

I've done the SEARCH route and didn't come up with anything clear. There's a few threads about clutches and a few threads about the same slipping symptoms I'm having and a few threads about using SE springs, the need for clutch adjustments, clutch pack brands, and how whatever they did it improved clutch performance, etc.

However...I did not see anything that would clearly state that what they did would work on my 15 RGS. Most don't state what year their bike is, so my question to their fix is; is it hydraulic or cable actuated? I don't know if that'd make a difference in how the clutch works and how it wears. My bike has 4.5 slip-ons, a/c kit, pv2. I've changed all three fluids every 5k miles...actually did the last one 500 miles ago at 34.5k miles. I use HD's Formula+ in the primary, 36oz.

As stated earlier, my bike is a '15 RGS and its now closing in on 35K-miles on the odo. I've recently detected the clutch slipping in the higher rpms when at speed at 75-80mph as I throttle up to accelerate to 85-95mph while its in 6th. The bike is still under the standard warranty and I bought an additional 3yrs extended because I knew I was going to be riding this thing ALOT.

What are the factory warranty, or if I chose, an aftermarket fix for this? I'm an experienced rider and I know how to modulate the clutch and I'm not a clutch dragger...the huge mileage reading is from the many long road-trips on the slab while droning in 6th gear...many long trips that I've taken since I got the bike last February. The 6th gear slab vs multi-gear twisty road ratio is probably 70/30. Thanks for your input and advice...I appreciate it.

Cable or hydraulic doesn't make a difference regarding your issue. If the clutch is covered under warranty, have a dealer check the frictions for wear and the steels for warping and replace if necessary. Your performance level is basically stock , if touring 2 up and heavily loaded may want to add a SE spring.

I have a '13 RG Ultra and at 40,000 started experiencing slippage in upper gears also, but especially after every dealer servicing. I purchased a 3 yr service plan when I bought it new and got 8 services out of them for less than 1500. Anyway, after the last service it was slippiong in 5th gear so I took out the service manual and learned how to adjust it myself. Very simple task and a ton of videos on youtube to help out. This helped some, but I decided to go ahead and replace the entire clutch pack as well, I went with the HD SE spring(HD PN 37951-98 @ $34.95) and Screamin' Eagle performance clutch friction disk kit (HD PN 37980-10 @ 179.95). I also recommend replacing the primary gasket and buying 3-4 qt of primary fluid of your choice. PcPain here on the forum could get you the parts cheaper I'm sure.

I replaced mine by myself using the factory service manual and these two youtube videos. The first one is about the replacement of the friction and steels and the second one is about adjusting the clutch after you have it back together.

I recommend also purchasing an 11/16" offset boxed end wrench for breaking the clutch adjustment nut from the adjustment screw. The dude in the video just uses an opened end wrench but that is a good way to round off the lock nut and NOT RECOMMENDED. For torquing the nut you should use a torque wrench and a 3/8"drive 11/16"boxed end crowfoot socket. Snap-on sells one for $37.50 (https://store.snapon.com/Flank-Drive...h-P631785.aspx) and Zorro sells one for $16.34

Make sure you put everything back together according to the instructions and it should go well. You'll never have to trust anyone else with your clutch adjustment ever again! Good luck
