2012 CVO limp throttle PLEASE HELP!

My friends 12 CVO has a strange problem. When it gets hot the throttle goes limp. He replaced the TBW and the connector going to the throttle body. He also swapped out ECM's to see if that was the problem. Anybody know what could cause this? It will be running fine and then all of a sudden it slows down and won't go past idle. Charging system seems fine. Stock stage 1 110" motor.

From the symptoms you describe, it must be throwing codes, I'd try to retrieve those instead of swinging wildly like he is now.

I had this problem on my 2009 FLTRSE3,

If you are referring to the TCA (throttle control actuator) behind the air cleaner (at 9:00 position), ask your dealer for Technical Service Bulletin TT418A. It's not the wires, it is the Pins in the plug wearing from vibration and not making contact.

Yes you should check for DTC's and see if there is anything there. Just a wild guess but maybe the Engine temp Sensor could be the problem.

If it's purely heat related, this would be my first guess as well.

I had the same issue on my 2010 and this^^^^^ is what it was. It is a very common problem and a fairly simple fix.

Friend of mine just had a very similar issue. Turned out to be an engine temp sensor. Easy fix.

As has already been said; first thing to do is check for DTCs. More than likely the engine temp sensor is bad. On the left side of the bike, front cylinder, behind the horn, you should see a 2 wire connector. That's the temp sensor. The sensor threads into a blind hole so no fluids or anything will come out when you remove it.

I had bad TCA connector pins causing Limp Home mode and code for Throttle Demand at inopportune times.
First of all - it's generally an intermittent problem.
Metallic expansion as temperature goes up can affect bad connectors.
Cycling the ignition Switch OFF / ON three times may reset the limp until next time the pin(s) lose contact.

Mine was fine - hot, hit a cooling mist of rain and it would limp.

Nick, my mechanic replaced the pins per the Harley Davidson TSB. Fixed.
