18 RGS Stage 3 Upgrade

I have done a lot of research and believe I would like to do the SE Stage 3 upgrade. I do have an extended warranty and do not want to jeopardize the same. I will add a Stage 1 air cleaner and SE Pro Street Tuner. Does anyone have any suggestions on this upgrade.

I have the stage 3 with Pro Pipe and tuned with a Power Vision. 9000 miles so far. The bike has tendency to spark knock a lot. Runs great other than that. I had mine done at del so the motor build would be covered under the ESP. I am not sure it will be covered under ESP if it was not-built within 60 days of purchase.

Just from what I read a lot I doubt you have any sort of mechanical warranty now that the ECM has been altered by a non Harley tuner.
Thats just a guess but if it was me, Id go back to the SEPST and be safe and have a better running bike.

The tuner and dyno tune was done by the dealer. Sparked knocked with the SE tuner and it spark knocks with the power Vision.

The bike in your pix is a Twin Cam. The OP is talking about a M8. Big difference in the ESP factors.

Your upgraded parts will NOT be covered under your 2 year bike warranty unless they are purchased and installed within the already mentioned 60 day window of when you bought the bike new. If they are purchased and installed after that 60 day window, the parts carry their own warranty, which they will honor and you will also not void the remainder of your powertrain warranty, as long as SE approved parts are used.

As far as your tuner- JUST because a dealer puts it on an aftermarket tuner on your bike and tunes it, doesn't mean a thing- a lot of times they have a clause on their work orders that specifically state you as the user are responsible and are asking to have these items installed/added to the motorcycle. They do this, so if the EPA or Harley comes knocking, they have legal coverage. The fact of the matter is that some dealers will honor your warranty, while others will void it..... you will need to check with your local dealer and ask them to put something in writing for you prior to installing anything. Just keep in mind that IF you travel and have to stop in at another H-D dealer for repair work, you might find yourself in a pickle.

As far as ESP's...... the Harley ESP sold at the dealership will not cover anything not Harley branded- if you're concerned about the ESP, I would suggest the following: Cancel your ESP, take the remaining funds and purchase a new ESP through Jim at Board Tracker and call it good- the plans they sell will ALSO cover any aftermarket components added.

As far as your Stage 3 is concerned, here is my opinion: A lot depends on when you bought the bike and how much time is left on your existing (2) year warranty. If you just purchased the bike and can add everything in that 60 day window and just want some extra punch, the Stage 3 with SE stuff will punch that card for you. Just know that everything will be dialed back and EPA restricted, so you'll get "better" performance but it's not going to be anything like it SHOULD be. If you're a year into your manufacture warranty and you're on the downward slope of that mountain, I would suggest riding it out through this season, eat the remainder of your warranty and save some pennies- then I would go to a reputable Indy in your area or look into someone like Fuel Moto to do an aftermarket Stage 3 kit for you, with some extras like the S&S Oil Pump & Cam Plate Kit and some other bullet proof enhancements and REALLY do a Stage 3 kit that gives you performance and reliability. Your aftermarket kits are going to outperform anything HD related by a long shot and they are also going to get your bike running cooler, more reliably and less restricted since they are not bound by the EPA. If you go this route, I'd also cancel your ESP and look into Jim- have him confirm his will cover the kit you're looking at and then jump on that ESP plan once you start your upgrades.

Good luck and let us know what you decide!!!!

I bought the 3 year ESP. I bought the bike in June of this year. I would like to keep the current ESP.

The Stage 3 kit is a good combination of parts. If you have your local dealership install the parts, it won't effect you ESP, as long as you use Harley parts. Also check with you dealership if/when you decide to do this because right now Harley has opened the SWR window. What does that mean? Normally when you buy your bike new, any Harley parts you have installed within the first 60 days are put on your SWR and they are then covered by your factory 2 year warranty. Once that 60 day window passes, any Harley parts you buy come with their normal warranty on them. When the MoCo opens this window, any Harley parts you have installed at a dealership can be added to your SWR and be covered the balance of your factory 2 year warranty, or ESP warranty in your case.
