I just replaced mine with the stock automatic tensioner. Didn't see the manual one till after I had already replaced it. The stock tensioner with just under 30k miles looked good. I could see where the rollers of the chain were just starting to make contact with the shoe. Actually I could hear it but no clunking of the chain I hear people talking about. Just a little noisier then usual. I would have no problem trying the SE tensioner.

When I installed mine I jacked the back tire up off the ground and put the bike in 6th gear and rocked the back tire back and forth. I had measured the chain tension before and after I did this. I cant remember but I think it tightened up to about 5/8th of an inch in slack. (not sure about that but I know it was in speck to the manual.) I would think the manual would be the same way. The main thing Ive read is to not get it too tight because of stress on the trans bearing.

I ran it for several thousand miles in my Skunk after I installed the 120 but I also ran the stock auto one for the first 20k or so of that. Must have put about 27k on the SE manual one. I believe the stock auto adjusting one is actually fine and has been for some time. Just one of those things that had some issues when it first came out and the MoCo solved the issue with an upgraded part and the after market guys just kept the old stories going to sell their parts. Don't blame them really as that is how sales works.

Never have had an issue with the stock auto tensioner , every time I go in the primary , it's good , but I always pull it to remove the tension for grits and shiggles , with almost 70 thousand the shoe still has lots of life left ..

I have run quite a few different loobs , the Harley , Redline , Delo 15-40 , and currently valvoline non syn 5-20 , I put a BDL clutch pak in a couple years ago and they recommended light non syn motor oil ..

No issues with any of them , altho I thinketh the Delo was too slippery and caused some clutch slipping ..

JTB, I used to run the Hayden but changed it out for the Baker Armored Attitude Adjuster.
The Hayden got very tight and dug grooves into the shoe.
So far The Baker is holding up very well. A quality piece from a Exceptional Company.

I put the Hayden tensioner in a few years ago and had the shoe break apart. I contacted Hayden about it and they told me that they "updated" the springs. The original version had a double spring, spring inside a spring. The "updated" design only had 1 spring. They sent me the "new" design and I reinstalled it and it's been great since. I'm currently doing a 124 motor swap and I will reuse the Hayden but I did replace the shoe only because I'm replacing everything that can be replaced as I take it apart to do the swap
