Mutazu Lower Fairing ISSUES!!!

So frustrating!!!

Went to install the Mutazu Vented Lower Fairing with 6.5" Speakers (http://www.mutazu.com/products.php?c...51&menu=Harley Lower Fairings&product_id=557&s=prod.php) and they do not fit.

As per what I read on this site, their site, and all over the web, they are supposed to fit by trimming a few inches off the cover, to clear the upper fairing bracket, which I did. That is NOT the problem.

The problem is the top of the main piece of the lower fairing hits the very bottom edge of the factory fairing AND the bottom of that same part hits the rear brake master cylinder. In an attempt to make it work, I trimmed both of those areas only to discover that there is no way the speaker pods will fit (they hit the factory fairing in the same spot where I trimmed the lower fairing).

I do NOT think the fairing on my bike has ever been lowered and am waiting to hear back from Mutazu, but think I will have no luck with them, since I have trimmed the parts.

Any suggestions or ideas on where I am going wrong (besides Not buying the HD lowers, wiseguys)?

What year bike? I installed these on my 07 RG with speaker PODs and just bought a set with speaker pods for my 2015 RG.

2004.
It's not even close. So frustrated and disappointed (and pissed that I chipped the paint on my fairing trying to force them on), and of course no one is answering the phone or replying to voice mails or emails today.
Guess I'm waiting until Monday (for them to tell me that they won't take them back since they've been trimmed). Once I get that bad news, I'll probably be selling the speakers, and everything else on this site, so if anyone is interested, pm me soon.

Anyone else have this issue, our is it possible that it's my bike? I really do not think the fairing has been lowered, and the hiway bars show no signs of being bent or anything.

2004. thats the reason right there. the moco changed the fairing mounts in 2010 which allowed the use of the batwing style lower fairings. until that point, the road glide had it's own specific lowers (which were non vented). in 2010, there is a new center mount, and the 2 mounts which go between your turn signals and crash bar. there are a lot of folks who have done the switch out to the newer style mounts. the hardest part is the r/r of the inner fairing.

I understand the concept of reality, but find it too confining for a way of life.

I use vented lowers on my 07 RG, so it will fit 04. Just loosen the bolts on the mount on crash bar on eachsidevsbd slide itin about 3/8 of an inch. Tighten back up and you have plenty of clearence.

Thanks for the info, but they claim to fit 1998-2013 Road Glides with just a little trimming of the cap. Mine hits the master cylinder (trimmed to fit), the bottom of the fairing (trimmed to fit) and at that pint the speaker pods are over 1/2 from fitting under the fairing.

I'm going to try what zrunnerz is saying, but when I originally tried I had all that loose from remove the GADS deflectors.

I was going to post pics of my 07, but image upload keeps failing. You can run hells foundry mounts or make them with 4' of 1" flat steel also.

Thanks for all the replies.... I probably wouldn't have forced it as much as I did without these posts.

Happy to report that I was able to get them on by removing the fairing support brackets, but it wasn't easy OR pretty. Not really happy that they touch the fairing, but what can you do. I still have to wire the speakers, but that will be done when take the fairing off to change headlights, add hidden antenna, and add an aux outlets in the glove box.

First time in a LONG time that I finished a project and had a handful of extra parts/hardware. Since they came with no instructions, and I started before the maker emailed them and before I could find anything written online, I have no idea what the two 1/2" red rubber spacers are for, or the extra 4-6 pointed screws and random washers...but I'm not too concerned. The fairing brackets and everything else metal-to-metal went back on with locktite, and I'm looking forward to taking a test ride tomorrow. I'm guessing I won't notice much of a difference with them closed compared to the soft lowers and GADS deflectors I removed, but am curious how the airflow will be when open.

Thanks again, gang.
