Slip-0n Mufflers

Just purchased 2017 Road Glide Special and looking at slip on muffler upgrades. I have been looking at the RCX 4.0 and was hoping to get some opinions and if anyone else has them on their bike. Also trying to figure if I need a Tuner for just a slip on upgrade on a M8 engine.

I also have a 2017 Road Glide they don't need a Special and I put on Vance and Hines dual cut, slash slip ons and I love them! I think they cost around $450 and they don't require a tuner when installing. Most slip ons don't.

Tom, you wont need a tuner for JUST slip-ons. Once you upgrade the Air Intake you WILL need to add a tuner.
For Slip-Ons, there is plenty to read on this site with many differing opinions. Sound is relative to what you like. I personally have the Cobra Neighbor Haters on my 2018 RGS and I love them.

Hope that helps.

Might want to check with your local dealer that will be performing any work on your bike and see what they say. Mine told me that with the new M8ís youíll need a tuner with just slip ons. They said it will void my warranty if i bring it in with them on. I know every dealership is different about this. That being said, i still put a set of knockoff CFRís on and love them. Kept the stock pipes in case i need to take it in for a warranty issue.

yeah, that is true too. I have two dealers in town that are about 15 miles apart (roughly) and they each told me something different with regard to warranty. One didn't care and the other says they wont touch it with slip-ons.

However, both told me that just slip-ons will not need a tuner. My Indy Mech told me the same thing.
Not arguing, just trying to show the differences between every shop you can go to. It drives me crazy because I travel all the time.

My dealer told me no tuner for slip-ons and no warranty problems. I took the take-offs home just in case. Oh I went with S&S MK 45s.

I have a 2018 RGS and I left the dealership about two and a half hours ago from getting my 1000 mile service done. I asked about this very topic because Im getting a set of CFR's put on the bike. The service manager told me that if I do the slip-ons and heavy breather I won't need the $300 tuner, but I will need it when I go to free flowing headers. He said he didn't want to charge me twice for programing the ECM. Now, I had a 2013 RK with RC racing exhaust and I loved them. I had a heavy breather and de-cat'd head pipes and stage 1 tune on the ECM. Prior to the tune, the bike ran a little shitty, so with that being said I'm going to do the tune on the new bike. However, I will be putting on the slip-ons and breather so I don't pay labor. They mentioned nothing about voiding a warrantee. Hope this helps.

It's amazing how you can get different information from different dealers about this topic. According to the parts manual, if you look up street cannon slip ons, it says you have to recalibrate when installing them. This was not the case for pre M8 models. I had slips on installed pre-delivery and the dealer would not install them without a tune. I knew i was eventually going stage 2 so I bought the tuner.
