Recommendation for Video Camera on RG
I know a lot of guys like the GoPro but I am looking for a cleaner and preferably MC specific camera solution. Sykik was at the International Motorcycle Show when it was in town and I have seen a brand called Inovvo. Both of these offer a DVR type device that mounts and is wired in to provide constant power. Both offer Front/Rear cameras that appear in the literature to be relatively small and discrete to mount. What I want to know is if anyone has tried either and if so, are they good?
Had some nut case turn left and t-bone my cage a while back. When cops arrived he lied and claimed I had ran the red light (never mind if I had ran it, so did he since this intersection had no protected turn signals and he was coming the opposite direction). Fast forward, it seems to me this Spring has propagated a whole new crop of idiot drivers not paying attention and I ride solo so no one along to capture some of those great photos for memory preservation. I want onboard video on my bike in case I have an accident and to capture the ride for my own review later.
On a recent ride to the 3-Twisted Sisters a few in the group had GoPros, they had them mounted in various locations but they all had to remove at night to prevent the camera growing legs and walking off, one was complaining he could not get his to charge and video at the same time, another was lamenting the mounting location was inconvenient, etc. etc. Obviously the GoPro is not made for a MC. I want feedback, opinions, suggestions, recommendations or whatever you have to offer but keep in mind my goals: (1) permanent mount, (2) powered off the bike so I don't have to worry about batteries in the camera; (3) I prefer front and rear that operate at the same time and record to the same media; and (4) most important is the system has to be discrete.
Again, I know Inovvo has one and I know Sykik has a couple models that fit my criteria but I have never seen a video (other than the marketing material) from either of these systems and I don't know anyone that has either. I don't mind being the guinea pig but no need to do so if someone else already volunteered.
