Banana Boards

I'm really liking the looks of cycle Smith Banana Boards. Hear they're nice and comfortable as well. How big can I go with lowers?

I've got their biggest ones which I believe are 21" and they work well with lowers. I feel like I don't even need highway pegs as they are the most comfortable boards I've ever had. You will not regret getting them at all.

Have had these for going on 7 years. I just replaced the rubber on mine yesterday. I had the ones with the rivet but opted to just replace rubber rivet-less style since they are easier to replace. Should be good for another 7 years. I won't ever have any other boards.

Doesn't really show the lowers all to well but they are there. comes close but plenty of space still.

Agree 100%. I've been running them about the same amount of time. In fact I swapped them over from my old bike to the new one when I traded.

I'm intrigued with this rubber replacement. I didn't know you could do that. Mine are showing their age. What all is involved in replacing it?

@JayKS , I too have been swapping them over from my old 2012 RG to a Softtail slim to a RKS and now to my 19 RGS. I will not do without them.


So about the replacement....My old ones were the rivet style and I noticed the rubber cracking at those points mostly then it started cutting across as the rubber started to dry.

I contacted Cyclesmiths's directly and talked to one of their guys that at the end sent me the rubber for free I just had to pay shipping. With that said They can actually redo the rubber for about $80.00 that includes the rivets if you have that plus shipping. In conversation I asked if they could just charge me for the rubber and ship it to me so that I could do it myself to avoid any downtime from having them and hence the "free" came up with me paying shipping.

The removal is actually super easy. You just take a 1/8" drill bit and drill out the rivets from the under side (not all the way thru though) just enough to use a small punch to push them out. the rubber is then glued on so it just requires tugging on them pulling them up. clean it up really good. I used Barge cement. you apply on the board and the underside of the rubber, set aside for about 1-2 hours then come back and apply.

If you'll notice the edges look rolled. It's actually the rubber part cut larger than the recessed area because it has an even more recessed area that you push the rubber edges down into. I recommend before applyling glue to dry fit the rubber and place some clamps to help pre-form the rubber. It will hold it's shape slightly. The barge cement gets stronger and stronger the more you step on it so there shouldn't be any worries of it coming up.

i tried to like the banana boards. really, i did. i just couldn't do it. i wanted boards that were longer as with the stock floorboards, my heels hang off the back. with the bbs, i found that while they were indeed longer and would support my feet more, because they were 'dipped' with my heels back, my toes were pointing downward. not comfortable in that position.

i also found that with the way they mount, if the bike was to ever go over, the boards would dig into the primary cover, and the exhaust on the right side. i even had 3/4'' floorboard extenders on. i was not entirely comfortable with that prospect.

so, i chalked it up as a failed experiment and returned them. i'm thinking that the defiant boards may give me the added length that i want. but, they are pretty pricey so have not jumped on them. may just stick with stock and 'suck it up'....

I understand the concept of reality, but find it too confining for a way of life.

I’ve run the 19” all black boards on my 12 and now on my 17, both with lowers. Love them. I chose the 19s over the 21s only because i liked the shape better. On my 12 i ran 1” forward, 1” out adapters, on my 17 i run the 1” out adapters. Both cleared my lowers easily.

Banana Boards

I also have the XL Banana Boards with the Lowers and they fit fine, no problems.

I installed them with the Pro Pad 3/4" Floorboard Extension Kit along with the Banana Boards Brake Pedal, Shifter Pedals and the Passenger Banana Boards and am very pleased with the setup.

I purchased all the Banana Boards from Direct Cycle Parts in Texas. I spoke with Steve and he took good care of me.
