Shark Week raffle info
Even though we're 6+ months away from Shark Week 4 in Maine/NH, we're starting to get questions from members and others as to how they can donate a prize for our annual raffle.
First, let's talk about the raffle itself. As you know, there is no charge to attend Shark Week. You pay for your own travel, meals, and lodging, but there is no fee for registration or other. That said, I will tell you that the organizers of each event do incur lots of misc. expenses that runs into thousands of dollars. Plus, we always make it a point to make a significant donation to a local charity as our way of saying, "Thanks for letting us share your town for the week." This years charity will be the local Chapter of Shriners, as a direct donation to their children's hospitals.
The way those costs get covered is through two primary sources:
1- the Thursday evening raffle
2- sale of event T-shirts and other trinkets
3. And to a much smaller degree, cash donations made to donation jars at the event.
After Thursday evening's (don't miss it!) awards banquet, we'll move downstairs to a large function room where all raffle prizes will be displayed on tables. Each prize has a brown bag taped to the table in front of it. You buy tickets in any quantity you choose and place one or more tickets into the bags that correspond to the prizes you'd like to win. At the end of the evening, winners for all prizes wll be drawn. The value of these prizes range from roughly $20 to hundreds of dollars.
To donate a raffle prize, please PM TracyB and she'll record your donation and tell you where to send the item. Your donation can be in the from of an actual prize, or as a gift card or certificate for a prize or service.
Gauthama (GMANSERGU) and I want to thank you in advance for your prize donations, whether you are a sponsor on this site, a supplier of anything RG related, or a generous member who wants to show further support for Shark Week events.
