As small as those screws are, purple loctite (222) would be the choice for me. It's low strength and recommended for very small stuff. It's also very useful on weapons.

I just lost all of my screws on my right bag (2009 RG) during our labor day ride. Fortunately, a friend had some handy straps so i could cinch up the bag for the rest of the trip. Couldn't find any of the screws when the lid came off.

Other bag has all screws...very strange that all screws in one bag would come out and nothing happened in the other bag.

Replacement screws from dealer have red loctite on them. Fix was easy, but sucks when it happens on a trip. I will be adding a few of these screws (and some straps) to my tool kit for the future.

Its funny this thread came up, this just happened to me two days ago... all five screws. I used Stainless Steel button screws and Blue Loctite. I am interested in the Purple Loctite, but haven't seen it locally.

I had to pull the whole latch assembly part to make the job easier. Take the tiny backing plate to the hardware store to make sure the screws you buy will thread correctly. I went to the local Ace/True Value. I am eventually replacing most of my hardware with stainless and Loctite... one vibration at a time...
