Higher output alternator

Hi all,
I put the HID light kit in that everyone else did I think. My problem is that my voltage reads 14 V when riding and 12v or lower when stopped at aight or what ever. I noticed my horn won't beep then. Is there a higher out put alternator I can install do to the draw of the HID's or a new battery or what? It's an 04 Roadglide.

I was having similar low volt issues several time with mine. HD replaced stator and regulator/rectifier under warranty and I bought a new battery under their advice. still had low volts after this (less than 12 at idle and maybe 13.2 @ 3000 RPM). five months later my regulator/rectifier started crapping out again once it got hot. I replaced it with a Cycle Electrics reg./rect. and that solved my problem completely. 12.7Vdc @idle and 13.9 @3000 RPM. I would advise that if you have a service manual for the steps to check your stator with a digital multimeter first, before just buying a reg./rect. Its pretty simple to do. Basically just checking for any opens, shorts or excessive resistance in the charging coils. It is possible also to check the rectifier, but there is no way to check the regulator. Harley does not test reg./rect. at all! They just threw parts at my bike and sent me down the road. PM me if you have questions.

Also forgot to mention, I have the same problem with my horn, even after replacing the reg./rect. so im thinkin my horn is just bad. Electrical components are funny, brand new can fail in a day, and the next one can last ten years. Funny how horns built 30, 40, 50 years ago can still function today, yet ANYTHING made today will be recycled in 20 years!

i do have the manual. I love the BiXenon lights and dont want to give them up. i also have had static in my speakers, wonder if that is affected by it also. I was going to replace the battery anyway, not sure how old it is, but it ran dead dead this winter and i believe that shortens the life of a battery.

I would double check all the connections that you can find or ones that you know you have unplugged/ messed with. I'm not really sure what would make the static in the speakers, hopefully someone else will chime in. I don't know anything about the BiXenon headlamps either. Batteries, however, if completely discharged, can be brought back to near 100% but will never reach what they were when new if they were properly initialized. You could have the battery load tested to see how much life it has left. If you walk into The Stealer with your bat. and ask for a load test I would be surprised if it costs you anything since it takes less than a Minute. Good luck.

I believe your 04 has a 40 amp stator and the newer bikes have a 50 amp stator. There is a 50 amp stator upgrade available for your bike.

Check all of your grounds. Even the one on the horn, In the fairing, under the seat clean the battery
And have it checked. I don't remember if your year bike has two or one ground from the battery??
Aftermarket or stock radio? If aftermarket run a ground back to the battery.

If your bike still has the circuit breaker under the seat clean these connections also.

Replace your battery cables with the good flexible multi strand cables.
This can make difference you will notice the first time you start your bike

I had radio static issues and went nuts last winter chasing grounds. Is the 5O AMP plug and play if you want to call it that? is the stealer the one with the cable upgrade or after market? the radio is the 04 Radio Sound with the amp and rear speaker upgrade.
Sorry, not big on the stealer, that's why i bought used.

Static from the radio is typically poor speaker connections. Access your speakers then pull the connectors off, crimp them tighter then push them back on. Also, if your speaker wires get to close the the speaker magnets, that will cause distortion in the audio.
