Oil Spray Problem Resolved.

Posted the following on 7/6/15:

After dismounting my 2003 RG when I arrived at work tonight I noticed oil had sprayed out over my saddlebags, tourpack, and the right side of the seats. I lost a considerable amount of oil over the 70 mile commute into work. I did stop for gas 30 miles in so the loss of oil occured during the last 40 miles. It appears to be comming from the behind the air cleaner cover but I won't be able to confirm that until I can get the correct allen wrench to remove the cover and air filter. Any ideas on what would have caused this? I've had no issues prior to tonight and have logged 2700+ miles since my last oil change.

Had the bike towed into the H-D dealership in Grand Rapids and they tried to get me to trade the bike in before they pinpointed the problem. After I told them to "please" open it up and find out what is really wrong I was informed the cam chain tensioner shoe came apart and that I could be looking at up to at least a $5000 rebuild if I were to have them fix "everything"! I borrowed a trailer and picked the bike up the next day. After some checking around I found out about a shop just 20 miles north in South Haven, MI owned by Jimmy Pacwa whom I learned does some incredible custom work and has a great reputation as an outstanding mechanic and is someone who is not going to bend you over the table and lay the wood to you. I picked up the bike yesterday and she sounds and rides better than ever. It has been a long six weeks of beautiful weather with out a bike. BTW, the dealership in G.R. drained my gas tank of over 4 gallons of 93 octane in the short time it was there.

So what was up with the oil spray? What was broke? What was fixed? How much? The details man!
And how much was the stealer going to give you for a bike with a broken cam tensioner that supposedly required $5000.00 in rebuild.

the cam tensioner shoe came apart and farked up the oil pump. pressure build up sent the oil out through the breathers. I never gave the "stealer" a chance to quote me a price.

As long as I was having the work done on the cam chain tensioner and oil pump I decided to get everything that needed fixing fixed. Front and rear tires(Michelin Commander 2), front and rear brake pads, handle bar bushings, speedo trip switch, spark plugs, engine gasket O rings, front motor mount, engine oil flush, 2 oil filters (one for the flush), 4 lifters cams inner cam bearings, outer cam bearings, outer cam gears and chain, cam support plate (billet), oil pump (billet), 2 cam chain tensioners, adjust primary chain tension, change primary oil and tranny fluid. 15.2 hrs labor at $70/hr. and $1605 for parts. total including tax and shop supplies came to $2750, roughly half what G.R. H-D was quoting!!

Holy Dang. When you go to town to shop you go large. For all the parts and work you had done I would say your Indy guy treated you very well.
