2003 runnability issues

2003 FLTR w/ 2500 miles on the clock, yes I know bike has been sitting and I'm trying to help someone out. Gas was stale, emptied tank, flushed cleaned petcock strainer, new fuel 93 octane. Pull carb, disassembled & let soak, replaced with all new gaskets & cleaned all reusable parts. Installed everything back on the bike and it started right up, took it for a test ride. Some hesitation in lower gears at around 2000 rpm, but ran good for a few miles. Idled well and thought we had it on its feet, brought it back to the garage and it started missing, popping and cracking. Pulled the plugs and they had turned black almost like leaving the choke out too long. Now acts like it has a miss and it will pop back out the carb, does anyone have any ideas where to start looking so we don't throw alot of money away....

start with the carb pull the bowl and make sure the low speed jet didnt fall out or come loose and also check float level since the plugs are telling you its rich thats where I would start, also may want to make sure enricher is opening when cable is pushed in .

That's for your response, I went back and double checked all the items you mentioned and all was good. What i did find is even after I had soaked the carb body and all the hard parts for a couple of days, and I thought all the jets we're clean that I found the slow speed jet needed additional cleaning. I used a welding tip cleaner tool and the very smallest one would fit inside of a 45 slow speed jet. I pushed it up inside just like cleaning the bore of a rifle and after about a couple of minutes the jet hole size looked alot bigger. I then reinstalled the jet and installed a new set of spark plugs, turned on the fuel petcock and she fired right up. I then dialed in the idle mixture and took it for a test ride and it ran perfect. What I will tell you is this fuel that contains ethanol will turn to total crap in no time and the junk it turns to and ends up flushing into your small parts will give you a large headache. It took me almost 2 hours to remove the tank & petcock, flush the entire system, replace all of the hoses that had turned to mush inside and to reinstall with fresh non-ethanol fuel. Don't let this fuel sit in your bike very long without some type of fuel conditioner or treatment. Again thanks for you help....
