2012 FLTRU Transmission leak

So I noticed the scooter has developed an oil leak......Took me a little bit to figure out it was the transmission.......and then with a little more "looking"......I found the two lower transmission housing 1/4" allen fasteners loose.....not just a little.....these buggers had backed out multiple turns. These are the fasteners that also hold the exhaust hanging bracket. They are extremely hard to access......looks like to gain full access you would have to remove the exhaust. Soooo, what I found was a 1/4" allen wrench that was for my garbage disposal (its angled and offset) was just right to get in there and snug these babies up. Leak gone.

My question is........

How long are those fasteners? Can I back them out and put loctite on them to prevent this from happening again? Can I do it without removing the exhaust?

Nope is the short answer. If you had a 2into1 pipe, you could take the support bolt off and loosen the flange bolts and pull it away enough to do this. You might be able to do it with the stock header by loosening the cross over under the bike. Hard to say.

Yeah, you can Loctite them, be sure to clean all the oil out of the holes before you apply. Had a 2010 that would loosen up about evry 700 miles, cleaned out with brake clean and used red Loctite, no more issues. If you need to remove a bolt with Loctite stick a worn out allen into the bolt head and heat the wrench with an LP torch to soften the Loctite.

Don't fail us now, oh blessed mother of acceleration...

Had the same issue with my 2011. The bolts are too long to back out with the exhaust attached, so I just check them when I think of it.
