Yes they can be replaced. Dealer and hardware stores carry them. I recommend ones by MadStad. Different design.

For removing the screw that just spins. I recommend loosening the other screws. The press on the windshield while unscrewing. Wellnut trouble like this can be caused by age or over tightening.

Rushmore bikes have a very different system than the earlier models. That isn't going to work.

I'm not sure how you're going to get that one off Q unless you can get to it from inside by pulling the speaker out of that side first.

This is the strangest thing. The simplest things causing big problems. I might be able to cut the head of the bolt off and be able to remove the top cowl of the fairing. Then I can't find a way of removing the rest of the bolt.

Are you sure the bolt itself isn't stripping in the wellnut?

I can't tell because I have a chrome windshield trim that I can't get off to get a look at the well nut. Wednesday I'm going to see what I can do.

The first time I took the windshield off my '15 I said "this is gonna be trouble sooner or later, if not for me, certainly for someone else". The steel screws in the brass inserts squeaked all the way out, the thread fit was just too tight.
Ended up running a tap through all the brass inserts which made the screws fit much nicer without trying to gall and bind up.
A bit of anti-seize on the screws gave a little extra insurance.

Sorry Rushmore are different. I didn't notice the 15 in the title. Rushmore doesn't use a well nut. Pressed in brass fitting. Similar to what my 97 FLH had. I had the same trouble. I removed the other screws, then gently pulled on the windshield. Screw with nut still attached came out. The fairing was stripped. To fix added jb weld to the hole, pressed the nut in. The tapped some fine gauge nails in between nut & fairing to create tension. Never had any further issues.

I recommend warranty first.

I also have one that is doing the same thing, lower fairing under the lights & it's from the dealer tech cross threading the bolt & stripped the fairing. Next week I'll have dealer look at it.

Thanks fellas. Half of my bolts squeak when screwing them in. I've had more issues with this bike in the last Year the. I have had in my life time of owning a HD. I will take it to the dealer. It's still under warranty. I was hoping it was an easy fix.

Q-Hog, what did you end doing to get the bolt out? The same thing happened to me today.
