Slight variation on the starting issue (clutch switch problem)
So, I have a 2018 RG standard. As of the incident on Saturday the bike had 5250 miles on it. Recent fluid change at 4900 (M1 in engine and F+ in tranny and primary) and clutch/brake line change at 5100 (longer cables due to handle bar change).
Sat morning I got up and met others for a benefit ride. We traveled approx 30 miles to the benefit and spent an hour there before departing on the ride. Ride was police escorted through town initially and then country roads. About 20 minutes into the ride, we made a left turn from a busy country highway and I sat in the intersection to block traffic (allowing our escort to continue back to the front). While stopped, I accidentally hit the kill switch and the bike went dead. It would not start in gear, even with the clutch lever pulled, switched into neutral and it started fine. Here's where the story differs.....
As the last bike approached, I shifted into first, then pulled in line as he went by. When I shifted into second, I released the clutch lever, bike revved when I got on the throttle, speed increased slightly but it felt like it wasn't in gear and the gear indicator on the speedo never lit up. I then shifted into third and similar problem. Shifted into 4th, paused, throttled and everything worked. Over the course of the next 15 miles, the problem persisted in the lower gears as we made turns. When we reached our mid point, we were off the bikes for 20 minutes, and at that, no issues for the next 15 or so miles. Then, came another intersection and I stopped to assist PD, and when I took off from that stop the problem returned.
I finished the ride, babying the bike, it sat for an hour as we ate lunch, then I took off to ride home. Problem never resurfaced.
Is this the same issue as others with the clutch switch in the LHCM, or is it a clutch line problem needing adjustment, or is it a fluid or fluid level problem from the last oil change...????
