Installing 12V accessory charger in Tourpack

I want to add an accessory plug in my tourpak for charging a laptop/tablet/phone while riding.

Looking for guidance, tips, etc. for doing this.

Do I just come off the battery and add an inline fuse?
How best to rout wires into Tourpak?

thx.

The easiest way is to buy the kit. Not too expensive and pretty good instructions. That's what I did.

Wiring to connect to should be already in the bottom of the tour-pak. Install on the backrest bolts and plug in. Easy as pie......Note that this is a 'switched connection'........

I got this idea from one of the other members here if memory serves me correct. The 12V Power Plug I used that can be purchased at Bass Pro Shops for a little more than half what the HD one cost. With some wire and connectors I keep on hand I had this one in just a few minutes using the same wires in the Tour-Pak that the HD version plugs into..

Here are a couple pics of the finished product.

If you have the Ultra the pulg is already there. I had the HD kit from my previous bike, removed it before trade in. When i went to install in the new bike, discovered the plug was already there so just pluged in and there ya go.

Digikey sells basically the same outlet as the basspro for about $5

I used a bunch of them to add outlets to my truck. Also put one on my Nomad.

Stupid question here, because I am installing my kit from HD today that was a gift from someone. I found the plug that is already there, but does that cable have the fuse inline already like the one that comes in the kit?

I plugged in the phone charger, turned on the ignition of the bike and it works, but want to make sure I do not damage anything. If this cable that's already there has a fuse inline then this is stupid easy, the hardest part will be cutting the liner for the TP.

Since it is switched it should be tied into the fuse block. I don't see a need for an 'inline' fuse.

I agree, but the cable that came with the kit has an inline fuse, basically I just want to make sure this shortcut is not going to screw anything up is all. Not that big a deal to run the cable.
