DIY Milwakee 8 High-Flow Air Cleaner Kit Install

Hello All, for my first upgrade I figured I would take some pics of the process and post it up.

#1 Remove the 8mm allen bolt holding the air cover on

#2 Remove the 3 star screws to remove the factory air cleaner

#3 Remove the rubber boots covering the mounting bolts top left and top right

#4 Remove the two breather bolts using an 11mm Deep socket

#5 Remove the two bolts holding the cross bar on

#6 You'll need to cut the zip tie holding the wire to the cross bar

#7 Cross bar removed, bike is ready for the new air cleaner

#8 Peel the backing from the throttle body gasket and carefully attach it to the back of the breather plate aligning it with the screw holes (see pic)

#9 Now install the two o-rings into the back of the breather plate, I had to scrape out some of the powder coat to get the o-ring to sit properly.

#10 Now thread the 3 throttle body screws all the way through the new breather plate, once through apply blue loctite

#11 Now apply blue loctite to the original top two bolts your removed on step 4 and start to thread them in just enough to catch a couple threads, now screw in the 3 screws around the throttle body and snug them up. Next tighten up the top two large breather bolts. once all are snug tighten 3 backplate screws to 55-60 in-lbs, the two breather bolts to 22-24 ft-lbs.

#12 This step is not in instructions from harley... Attach the two breather tubes to the breather bolts as shown in picture below

#13 Now put the air cleaner on and use the 3 supplied bolts (10mm) to bolt it down (sorry no pic)

#14 Now decide if you want the screaming eagle or the 107 badge.... if you want the screaming eagle you must pull off the original badge it wont be easy and it will be destroyed after. Clean all residual gum off of it and remove the outer rubber seal that is around the edge of the chrome cover.

#15 Now bolt on the chrome cover using the new supplied bolt (star) then peel off the backing behind the SE badge, Now line up where the badge goes and press into place dont worry if its not perfect it can be moved around once the adhesive fully adheres to the surface.

#16 Now buff out that chrome and stand back and appreciate your work..

Until next time!

Can the air cleaner kit be installed without the tuner or muffler upgrades?

Samι thing I was wondering. Isn't air cleaner, pipes, and tune the stage 1 upgrade?

The Hi Flow can be installed on it's own without the mufflers. I had the dealership do that at the 1000 mile service. To get the performance gains the bike needs to be tuned for the higher airflow. My dealership had no issue with me using the FP3 for this. I even asked about impact to the warranty, and it did not seem to be a concern.

I did however, install the SE Street Cannons yesterday and re-tuned with the FP3. I had to use Auto tune, since V&H does not have the SE maps yet. After about 150 miles I had a nicely populated fuel map.

The bike is running and sounding sweeeeet.

Nice pictures. I had the dealer install the high air flow, SE mufflers and tune yesterday on my 2017 RGS. They used the SE PRO Street Tuner. Torque increased from 96 to 102 (6.25%) and HP increased from 73 to 83 (13.7%). My 2016 RGS had high flow Air cleaner; tune, V/H true duals and V/H round slip ons and 255 cams and yielded 101 torque and 82 HP. Dealer mentioned that new pipes are coming out that will further enhance the torque and HP without new cams. The main increase is that the torque stays constant at 102 on the 2017 from 2500 RPM through 4000 RPM rather than 3000 RPM to 4000 RPM on the 2016. Oh, and the engine oil is running about 50 degrees cooler.

sorry for the late response, YES you can install any air intake without a tune it'll simply be able to breath easier. Once the o2 sensor senses the lean condition it'll give more fuel...

You shouldn't expect any noticeable torque or horsepower increase without a tune and supporting modifications such as an exhaust.

Since this post I have had a stage 3 kit installed at the dealer (within the 60 day limit so its all covered under factor warranty). All I can say is wow..
