Handlebar Clamp Removal

I want to add risers for my stock handlebars.

I have a service manual. I am looking at Figure 2-93 on page 2-72.

How do I remove the lower clamps? The bolts (#7) that hold the lower clamps seem to be covered with a steel plate below.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I know heritage bars are cheap but I do not want to risk ruining my grips.

To answer your question first. If you turn the handlebars to the left or right you will expose the bottom of the bolt head and you can get it with a long extension. However in order to put on higher risers you will not be able to do so with out cutting the top plastic piece where the clamp area is. As for getting the grips off do a search on here as there are many good ways discussed for that one. I have changed my bars three times and always reuse my grips with no problem.
