Extended Service Plan (Warranty) Pricing

A couple of months ago, I made the decision to keep riding my 05 'Glide because mileage was still relatively low (just over 40K), I had considerable investment in wheels, paint and other HD candy, and I just like the scoot.

So, I wanted to also extend my original HD Extended Service Plan. I was originally quoted a price of about $1800....when I went to purchase, the price rose to $2200. I made an offer of splitting the difference and was told that I was purchasing an insurance policy and Florida statutes disallowed discounting insurance. I feel like I should have gone to other dealers out of Tampa (all three Tampa dealerships are owned by same firm) but didn't.

Long story short, I went ahead with purchase, so now my Glide is good for 100 k miles, and got my first installment last week with a radio replacement.

Does anyone else know if the dealer was blowing smoke on this one?

my understanding is Florida is regulated this way. They are the only state I've heard of that are but I don't know that for sure.

Just purchased my extended service contract this week from Atlanta HD. I believe it was $1,688 for the 7 year plan with tire and wheel.

I'm curious on this... I bought my Glide used in January, it's under the factory warranty till April 2013... Does anyone know if I can buy an extended contract before the factory warranty expires? And, can any dealer sell me one?

Yes you can but shop around. The price I quoted above is the best I've found for the CNA warranty....the $1200 that Troll posted may be for a different provider, they do have cheaper options but I'm not sure about the other companies.

I should have explained better....

The extended warranty was for my 05 RG, because my original had expired. There is a higher price for other than new bikes...it was about $600 more. Since I plan on keeping and riding the bike for much longer, I opted for the five-year, 100,000 mile policy with tires and wheels which was about $2200. One tranny or motor and that is pretty good. Right before my original expired, the dealer replaced my cam chain setup with the new SE piece with the larger oil pump. That would have been an $1k repair.

But to answer the previous question, YES, you can by an HD extended plan on used bikes....just a little more which is understandable.
