Just saw something from another post that reminded me ,when I traded in my last bike for some reason I removed my Guardian Bell. What's the proper protocol can I put the old bell on my new bike, or is a new one required?

Not sure there's a proper protocol, per se. But I personally think that if the bell was a gift (I think that's the best way to get one as I understand it), like mine, you should keep it and transfer it to the new bike. After all, it's about your protection (not the bike's) right? Just my .02 FWIW.

i see it as, new bike new chapter new issues. it wouldnt hurt to get a new bell. just make sure someone gives it to you. you could hang the old one up in the garage as a memorial to the old bike. just my opinion :)

Ha, I remember playin a joke on my friend one time. He had his bell tied to the bar between the downtubes and wanted to move it below the oil cooler. This guy is very superstitous, with the open knife must close it back kinda stuff. I told him if the bell comes out of contact with the bike, it was ruined and back luck to put back on. This guy made a little zip line and tied it to where the bell was and to where it was going and slid it down. Funny as hell!

The guardian bell is given to YOU by another PERSON that cares for you. NEVER EVER trade or sell your bike and not take the bell off to put on your new bike. The guardian bell only works if it is given to you by another who cares for you and the protection from the guardian bell is transferred from bike to bike. The guardian bell protects you not the bike.

Thus my rationale for transferring it to my new bike after the accident.

Thunderbueller, Eric92,
Do either of you wear a cross around your neck? Have any other icons, tokens or dodads, that YOU believe, bring you good luck.
How about a friend or,some member of your family? Any of them have or do anything , for any reason, based on a belief or superstition?
Yeah, thought so.
So, I guess you berate them for that too!

Interesting.

I always let the bells go with the bike. My last one had three of em! lol

I had three people buy me bells, and said WTH!

I usually can't reuse them though. You are supposed to hang them as low as posible, so mine end up on the floorboard mounts. I had pretty much destoyed one, and lost another.

I have a brand new one on this one from my parents, and haven't scraped it, yet!

If the bell gets destroyed or doesn't ring anymore, it's not doing any good. The road gremlins get caught in the bell and the ringing annoys them so much they fall off (in the road and away from your bike). If the bell doesn't ring, they can't get annoyed and leave.

I don't really believe there are road gremlins but I DO have 2 bells.

I have my bell on the bike for when I'm riding and have worn a St Michael (protector of warriors/soldiers) for the past 23 years when I'm not........

Don't know if they work or not, but I'm still here typing this message so who knows......

Superstition, faith, belief, rememberance of those gone before us, call it what you wish. Some believe , others do not, still no reason to bash on people. Sometimes it is better to shake you head and keep silent.
Just my opinion. [and we ALL know that opinions are like a$$holes, everybody has one]

Indeed. If nothing else, I think it's a cool tradition to pass on, and for friend and riders to share in.

WTH is wrong with people that they have to be so critical of what is just a fun tradition?

Geez, lighten up a bit people.

When people have gotten one for me, I just consider it an act of friendship and brotherhood.

Well... I didn't know my simple question would spark so much debate.Don't see anything wrong with a little good nature d fun and that involves having a little faith .what could it hurt, right?

Seems to some here there is. I have to say I'm surprised as well.

It almost seems some are downright offended at a simple act of fellowship among bikers.

I don't know that people really believe it helps, to me it's just something that is tradition more than belief that a 5 dollar bell helps!

My wife bought me one and it makes her feel better. That's enough for me!!
