just put on my 14" windvest this evening and took it for a quick ride just down the road a bit to test it out. was only gonna be gone for 5 mins as i wasnt dressed to ride and i didnt have the time to ride it long.

this damn thing jumped out in front of me at 65 mph

i had a split second to decide what i was gonna do as i only saw it in my left peripheral vision before i hit it. no way was i gonna be able to dodge it so i stiffened up a bit and held my speed (maybe i accelerated a bit) and rode through it.

my front fender caught it right under its belly. its head on my brake pedal side and its ass on my shifter side. its front and rear legs smacked my right and left shins and then wrapped themselves around my engine guard.

i split its abdomen open and killed it instantly on impact.

i carried it laying sideways wedged between the top of my front fender and the bottom of the fairing for about 200 yards as i coasted to a stop. i had to unwrap it from the bike when i stopped to get off. i'm lucky it was a younger one.
.
i was able to stay up thank god. i didnt have my wallet or my cell phone as i was only gonna be gone for 5 mins. a nice lady and her son stopped to help me out. she let me use her phone so i could call my wife and she had paper towels and sanitary wipes so i could wipe all the guts off my legs (i was wearing shorts, which i hardly ever do).

i was only a couple miles from home and was able to ride it slow back home although the front is crooked now.

anyway i'm alive but now i gotta get the whole insurance, collision repair thing started tomorrow.

be safe out there, you never know whats lurking around the corner

Glad to see your ok and held it up. That's my worst fear in early evening riding other than the F'ing Idiots that have their heads up their asses. The deer are pretty big here in South East Ohio. Lots of woods and hilly, windy, twisting roads. Had a friend hit one about 10 years ago he wasn't so lucky. He was laid up for a few months. Be safe out there.

the more i sit here and play it back in my head the more i realize that i was incredibly lucky. i t-boned it perfectly, picked it up and carried it down the road like i placed it on there. sooooo lucky.

In that 3rd picture, it looks like your Sancho Wings kept a lot of the deer sh*t off you. Another reason to install Sancho Wings... lol

Glad you didn't go down and are ok. This is the second deer thread in the last couple of days. Let's hope it's the last for a while. Hope the repairs go quickly for you.

Glad you're OK, and good job keeping it upright. It is lucky you hit it square in the middle, kept the impact centered, that probably helped a lot.

Good that you didn't panic and lock up the brakes too! Hope the ins. co. treats you right, but don't count on them to have your best interests at heart. They will likely try to get away with paying as little as possible, so you may not want to accept their first "offer".

When it comes to insurance and fu@#ing Bambies i got treated pretty good after all we always hear about them being unpredictable and you will be suprized by how many are involved in bike and cars. It will hit you later tomorrow how lucky you were when ya drive by that spot again.

^^^^^^^^

Know a guy who saved three deer last year by layin' the bike down causing 8k damage to his bike and broken bones for himself and his wife.

Sounds like you did it textbook. Good for you.

Glad your ok!
