HUTMO's CLOSE CALL

Okay... not a bike accident but a close call none the less.

Two weeks ago I left my bike outside and it started to rain very hard. I went to bring her in. I jumped on and quickly lifted her off of the stand when my right foot slipped and I was forced to gently lay Black Betty down on her side.

Not happy about it but stuff happens. I then went to lift her up and this was when bad things started happening. With the bike three quarters of the way up my right knee (which is pretty loose from injuries) popped and I was forced to lay her back down and get help from my neighbors... MY POOR PRIDE.

Since then all has been well but yesterday it got bad and I was afraid I would need to cancel my trip. I cleaned up Betty getting ready for my July 4th departure and decided to really clean up the wheels too.

I quickly sat down Indian style when my right knee had a very sharp pain. When I say pain, I mean the worst knee pain I have ever had. I could only take little tiny steps if holding onto something near by.

Again...I swallowed my pride and had my neighbor put my bike away again. He is getting tired of me. :D

I made my way up to my couch and was sitting there feeling sorry for myself and thinking that I may have to drive my car instead. I then realized that I couldn't even do that since I own a coupe and there is no way I could have gotten in or out with the pain I was experiencing. I was starting to formulate a plan in the event that I had to cancel because there was no way this was going to feel any better by July 4th yet July 13th. Things were not looking or feeling too good.

Then it happened.... While laying on my couch I elevated my legs on to the armrest. I had to lift my bad leg to get it there. I shifted my body without moving my leg and all of a sudden my knee popped. Usually pops and knees are not good things but this time it was good. As soon as it popped the pain was gone and I was back up ad moving around like nothing happened. It is a bit tender but all is well.

INCREDIBLE

Maybe dislocated it? Glad to hear youre up and moving but id be sure to wear a brace or something of its kind to help prevent anything like that happening on your trip away from home. Good luck man :)

Close Call.

Doctor?

All they will say is that your ACL is torn and the MCL is torn and you really should get that badboy fixed. Been there and done that on my other knee. :D

..we're either going to have to get a Life Alert beacon for you or assign a couple of Prospects to follow you around to help you pick Black Betty up.;)
Maybe we can have an ambulance follow Hutmo for the duration of his ride?
But seriously Hutmo, get the Brace, and avoid washing, moving, the bike for a bit. Oh, and maybe bring that couch of yours with you seeing you know how to pop that knee back in now when using it :p
Be careful man, don't want You dropping out of SWII:eek:

Wrists, elbows, shoulders, knees, hips, ....boy, gettin old and worn out is the crap! But sure beat the heck out of the alternative! For every day you wake up lookin at the green side of the grass and not the roots, be thankful!

Could be torn cartilage or "Meniscus". My left knee had the lateral and medial torn with a cyst on my ACL, walked around with it for years. Sometimes I'd get crippled then it would go away. Eventually it didn't go away that's when I got it checked and found out there was a problem. Basically sometimes the torn piece would get it the way of other things in there. Right before the surgery I could barely dress myself because I could not move my leg. All fixed now wish I had done it sooner. Been 5 years with no problems.

Medic tim

Medic Tim will be accompanying me along the Gypsy Tour. I will have medical supervision right at hand. Hypofelctoid my leg???? What the hell you talking about? Will beer help this?

Just don't bend the knee too far.

Beer may help you not be able to walk in a straight line and not really care about the pain. But really want you to be well for the trip. Looking forward to the Gypsy Tour.
Guess I need to pack some extra ice packs.

last december, things at work started getting slow.

calling the boss, saying, WTF, where's our work? what's going on? mind you this is about 11:30am

right, well minutes later, bid a job, $150 over 'standard' installation, seemed fair, usually people will jump up and down, get red in the face about the extra expenses and I get to take off work early, no pay, but no hassles for me. or say yes, and I'm done by 2.

SOB ~ I was there until dark, about 6:30pm

what made it challenging?

80ft, up a hill, cut a tree down, break my shin fabricating a dish mount in between two barbed wire fences, keep working, get a signal, not high enough to get paid, cut another tree down, 6pm

so here I am, broken or fractured shin, up and down this 80ft embankment all day

when I finally sat down to show the customer how the system worked, all the labor done, I got a large shooting pain and heard something go click
as I sat indian style or sort of tried to.

I feel your pain.

I never quit working, never went to the doctor, never put in for disability, after about 6 month, stuff just healed itself.

sounds like you fixed it, the brace wouldn't hurt. or doc.
