Just finished installing a 300 light LED set. Works fine, except when I start the bike. It goes into limp mode and the yellow engine light comes on. I'll call the light guy in the AM but would like to know why that would happen.
As instructed... pos & neg terminals on battery. I can leave the lights on while parked, using the remote.
I just went through and cleared all the codes just in case, bike started and did not limp. I'll take it out in the AM and see if it happens again, after leaving the lights on.
As soon as I put it in gear, I get limp mode. Cleared all codes except 1510 & 1511 which won't clear. How did this happen by installing lights to the battery?
Disconnected the lights and cleared codes. As soon as I go to drive limp comes on with the same codes 1510 Throttle actuator control limited perf, and 1511 Throttle actuator control power management mode. I did not touch anything having to do with throttle? Could the light controller have done something? Is there a connection for the throttle around the battery? Help
Check your ground and positive terminals Carefully.
Especially the ground, both the battery connection & where it attaches to the frame. I would suspect a bad ground throwing erroneous codes, since that's the only thing you touched with the lights instal...
Checked the battery connections all good. In doing a little more research, the codes for the throttle actuator, I looked for those connections. I zip tied the AC led lights to one of them. Might have pulled on the wires, waiting for the engine to cool enough to get my hands in there to pull them apart and replug them. Hope that works, if not I sense a call to AAA for a ride to the mechanic.
Did you zip-tie to the wire bundle that goes into the throttle body? The wires there are at a 90 degree angle, and pretty tight. It's a weak spot in the design, and causes problems. It's a hot, dirty, area and those wires have quire a bit of stress on them already...
Thanks. I waited for the bike to cool again. Unzipped the one wire I added with the light. Rechecked, as best I could, all connections and they seem good. The shop is prepped for me to take it in. Maybe someone that does this everyday will fix it quick. (I hope). Another nice easy relaxing job in the shitter. I'm afraid the sky's the limit on this one. I hope the LED controller didn't have something to do with frying the bikes electronics.
