I carry a small Maglite, small spray bottle of Lucas Slickmist for the windshield(bugs), 3 microfiber towels, insurance and registration papers rolled in a baggie, 3 or 4 CDs, cell phone and charger, and a camera. These items are split between the two dash bins. With careful placement, they will hold quite a few small, but necessary items. I miss my saddlebag guard bags like I had on the Road King, but, oh well.
I agree, both spaces are somewhat useless for alot of things. I keep my doo-rag and shades in one side, garage door opener, container of toothpicks, Ipod cable and sometimes ipod in the other side. When I have the lowers on I sometimes keep my tire pressure gauge in one of the compartments
Inspection sticker/bracket, keys, wallet, clear glasses, tylenol and sun block.....I also mounted another cigarette lighter inside when I had the fairing off so I can put a car charger for my phone and my phone in it to keep it charging while on the road...

had mine 2 weeks now,and like you,I came off a dyna.I keep smokes in the left side, glasses in the right.Registration and ins card in one of the compartments in the trunk.
This time of year, what lower compartments? I am 400 miles from home today which means I am 400 miles from those lowers too. Unless you are comfortable on the surface of the sun you will have them off this time of year. It is only 2 nuts and a single bolt to remove each one so spend the 10 minutes and do it. Your right calf will thank you for it and you will enjoy a bit of air coming up from below that shark nose too.
At a time of year when the lowers make sense, I usually store a spare pair of very warm gloves in mine.

I leave my lowers on year round and strangly enough find them much cooler with the vents closed rather than open - and I really like them in the rain.
The glove boxes are where I keep my iPod plugged into the adapter cable as well as the kickstand puck, clear glasses, tire pressure guage, mini camera tripod, and a small LED flashlight as well as my cell phone.
I too ride a Dyna, and I love my glove boxes. I have my ipod wired to my stereo with a hole drilled. This is under my MCC liner in a zip lock baggie, so people cant see it. I never take it out. I keep my bill fold and a micro fiber cloth in case i spill fuel on the tank on the right side. The left side has a pair of glasses, in case I forget/loose my other pair, tire gauge and my phone also in a baggie. My garage door opener is a key fob style that is double stick taped under the lid (a trick I learned on here). I keep an extra seat mounting screw, and the key to my luggage rack under the MCC liner. I never worry about stuff getting stolen out of em because nothing has been.
Upper left, garage and gate clickers. Right, extra earplugs, glasses, and spare magazine for my .45.
Lower left, cheapo emergency plastic poncho + space blanket, first aid kit, sunscreen. Right, flashlight, tire gauge, gerber multi-tool and interchangable tip screwdriver.
I have a 2011 RGU I take the lowers off till it turns cold, WAY to much heat with them on. I never use the storage in them. The upper I use for keys, connecting cord for IPhone, sunglasses, phone charger. I may convert to speakers
Clear riding glasses and my sunglasses along with glasses cleaner and micro soft cleaning rag. The other side has sunblock and my IPhone. They are not big but they are useful.
Extra pair of clear and dark safety glasses in one, so I never get caught if I end up out past sundown or if I loose my sunglasses while off the bike. The wallet usually goes into the other one about 50 miles into the ride when I realize it's hurting my A$$.
I keep cell phone/ipod cables and gloves in the fairing storage. I keep a supply of paper towels/rags in the lower storage. When I run low, I grab extra paper towels at the gas stations and put in. Always handy when you check oil or need a quick rag.
Left side has my glasses, phone and EZPass. Right side has my IPod and wallet.
In the lowers on the left is a small sack with the little crap I carry: mag light, earplugs, bandanas, bottle opener, and some "emergency" diabetic supplies (smarties, crackers and spare mess ... A pitiful stash, I know...).
On the right are a tangled mess of bungie cords and a bungee net. Also a small tube of sunscreen that I always mean to reapply, but forget.
In FL, especially at the beach, it is common to see one of the snap on lids on the lower left removed. That's where the water bottle rides. I put the bag crash guards on, so I have the water bottle holder on the left in front of the saddlebag. On the right in front of the saddlebag, is my wife's stuff. Spare shades, clear glasses, and the (home made) cig lighter adaptor & charger that allows her to
use the battery tender lead to charge her phone whenever she talks through a charge.
I put an aux jack in the right compartment so I don't have to run a cable from the front of the radio for the iPod, next time the fairing is off I'm gonna put a power port in there also to charge things.
I keep my iPod cable and cell phone in left. Clear glasses and fresh can of Copenhagen in the right. I never use the lower storage so I am installing speakers in them next week.
I keep sunglasses, kickstand coaster, tire pressure gauge, garage door opener, mini mag lite, and my smokes & lighter in the top. Don't have lowers.
