Well since i'm on chemo my body is going to crap, i've lost bout 30 lbs and alot of it muscle. I layed the bike on its side in the HD dealer parking lot and could not pick it back up....sigh...time for a trike kit! I'm going with a semi-removable one because of the price. I realize you get what you pay for, but this kit looks really good for the price.
Let me know what you think: http://www.triptrike.com/
I'm going for the cheap one because i'm off the chemo in april of next year and a good plus is, i'll be able to teach my wife how to ride!
There might be a few members with trikes, but I think a specific forum may help more. Here's a trike forum a friend used to go to when he was thinking of converting to a trike: http://www.triketalk.com/forum/
Hope this helps and even more...I hope your recovery is fast and complete!!!
Being a trike rider myself due to the loss of my left leg above the knee, if your only riding around town using this type of kit you will be ok. Any longer riding I would suggest getting a real trike kit. The type of kit your looking at has stability issues if its not properly adjusted and maintained. Reason for this has to do with having your rear tire in the center and if you had to make a sudden move there is a chance the bike handling will become unstable
What ever kit you decide to choose you should have a raked triple tree kit added to make steering much easier.
Looked over the site, not very active, and I could not find one post that mentioned Trip Trike or TT jr. Was hoping someone here had one or has heard of them.
Thanks for the advice Tom, however, I cannot afford a full conversion, or a rake and kit. I am only going to need it for about 10 months and didn't want to spend a whole lotta dough. Maybe I might have to go to full conversion if I cannot get my muscle mass back. I've yet to see a roadglide converted to a trike, would look interesting I bet.
Thank you, its going good, just wish I wasnt so dang weak and tired....but its all for the good. Bike is still at the dealer being repaired, so i'm looking around for the kits, to see which will be suitable enough for short term. If not, i'll go full conversion.
Might be cheaper to buy a used trike and sell it next year rather than converting your RG, especially if you're going to want to be back on 2 wheels later.
Thats why i'm looking at the triptrike jr, I can remove it later on, or if the wife wants to ride it we can put it back on. Just thought i'd throw it out there if folks have this one or one like it for some input.
You could also look into the Voyager kits. My wife had an Electra Glide Ultra with one of these kits on it when I met her. Easy to connect & disconnect the kit, and rode okay. I personally didn't like not being able to lean through turns, but may be just the short term ticket you are looking for. Good luck.
Well, since i'm on the chemo and outta work and my dissability runs end of this month and social security disability doesn't kick in till november, I had to go cheap and bought a used two-pac insta trike kit off of ebay. Only paid 1k for it, and i'm going to summerfield florida to pick it up next week. Anyone in that area to help me load it up? Not sure what kind of health the previous owner is in. I imagine its not all that heavy, so if I have to remove the wheels I will do so.
My wife had the same issues with her '08 Ultra EG, the bike was getting too heavy for her to pick up off the side stand. We priced out a trike kit at a dealer, but with matched paint, install, etc., it was going to be in the 16K to 17K range. So, cuz the Ultra was paid off, she traded up to a '11 Triglide with a factory warranty. We got various answers from various dealers on whether or not HD would honor the extended warranty if a trike kit was installed on the '08. So far she loves it, in fact we're taking it to Sturgis this year.
