Thanks nightglide... but if both additive pakages are known to be safe, does it really matter that they mix?

You are safe according to Mobil.

Excerpt:

Is it okay to mix conventional motor oil with Mobil 1?

Yes. Mobil 1 is fully compatible with conventional motor oils, semi-synthetic motor oils, and other synthetic motor oils, should it be necessary to mix them. But the superior performance of Mobil 1 will be reduced by diluting it.

Had a quart and a half of VTtwin leftover. Nobody in town had any vtwin in stock so i picked up 2 qts of 15/50 figuring combined its now 17/50 with additives that are both good for the hd. I know silly but figured just this time. My buddy was convinced i was an idiot to do this so i thouvht id ask. I dont think the next 3k miles will be a problem. Ill let you all know if she blows up :)

I've had to do it in the past as well, because I'd wait until after everything is closed before I did my oil change and realized I was out. Never had a problem,.. there are a lot of people out there that will tell you "You better not do it",.. but then again most of our mothers said the same thing when we first wanted a motorcycle. :)

Kinda reminds me of the old days, when the service manual said never use synthetic, but only use "genuine harley davidson" oil.then when they came out with syn3,it was ok all of a sudden.

kinda destroys most of the moco's credibility when it comes to their oil recommendations.they just want you to buy it from them.

I'd probably put left-over oil in the primary, but that's just me.

I do have a major problem with any Harley Davidson oil and lubricant...they are all CITGO products. Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez is the owner of CITGO and he is a threat to the United States and has been for a while. I refuse to use any of his products.

Rumor is that Mobile 1 would have been the supplier for H-D, but H-D would not let Mobil Oil state on the container that you were using a Mobil product. So Mobil told'em to take a hike.

Mixing Lubricants......

Just a few thoughts....."IF" you're still under waranty and somthing should happen (not that it would) Harley has the option of voiding coverage if it saw fit. Baring all the forementioned posts, considering the investment and amount of enjoyment I get from my Glide I try to plan ahead to avoid these situations. I also wrestled with going synthetic with my Softail before my Ultra. Was there going to be oil available on trips if I had a problem ? Whats better, when is best to change it, and then there's cost . I'm anal, I admit it ! I'm stuck in my ways as maintenance goes.

Way overthinking things. A mountain out of a mole hill.

Referring to the quote above... Yes you now essentially have a 17/50 oil. As long as they are both synthetic you shouldn't have a problem. Also refering to all the concerns posted about your warranty if something goes wrong simply don't mention it.

this is an interpretation from Magnusson Moss

If the manufacturer requires you to use a particular brand of oil or filter etc etc for the warranty to be valid , the manufacturer must provide you those branded products free of charge for the length of the warranty

that is why the owners manual "recommends" their oil and doesnt "require" it
